Triumph followed by tragedy

Passage of the same-sex marriage bill is something House Majority Leader Floyd Nease would have wanted to revel in. Not to mention his first successful veto override.

He didn't have a chance to do that Tuesday. Nease's mother died just before the House went on the floor to take the vote. He stayed because without his vote it would not have passed, then he left for New Hampshire.

Whichever side of the issue you fall on, that's heart-wrenching. Our best wishes are with him.

- Terri Hallenbeck

Floyd is a man with a big heart. I don't always agree with him but he always fights hard for what he believes in.

His mother had a lot to be proud of.
Floyd is a class act and a great leader for the Democrats. best wishes to him and his family.
My heart aches for Rep Nease.

I would have died inside a little yesterday if we had lost this override vote. Even so, I would have completely understood if Rep Nease had left before voting under these circumstances.

What a wonderful thing to do for his friends and neighbors -- putting their (our) needs before his own. This man just made my hero list for all time.
