Sen. Phil Scott, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, announced last week that his campaign’s finance chairman would be former KPMG executive Glen Wright.

Wright made a name for himself last year as the guy who came through on his threat to move his official residency to Florida because of Vermont taxes (you can read about it at http://www.vermonttiger.com/content/2009/05/farewell-.html.)

He still calls Vermont "our state," however. "As a longtime central Vermont businessman, Phil understand the needs of our state and has proven throughout his years in the Senate that he is willing to fight for those needs," Wright said in a news release.

While having an out-of-stater as a major player in your campaign is okay, having one who is a major player in the Vermont "cut-and-run" group is not a smart move. Sorry Phil, this is a bad business decision.

HA brilliant pick. Opponents will be unable to criticize the pick w/o engaging in a debate about VT's tax levels. Phil can also use it in campaign speeches. Nifty.

Interesting pick. I don't think the media will like it, but it will set Scott apart.

I wish him luck changing Vermont's tax structure, or otherwise I will soon be out of here for a no-income tax state after living in Vermont for 30 years. It was great here for awhile; I wish those who want to stay here good luck.
