Queen city's gay vote

It's been a lively mayoral race in Burlington, with four viable candidates in the running to run City Hall, and so it's not surprising that there's a push on from a local group urging the mayoral hopefuls to do their best to reach out to the queen city's gay and lesbian vote.

But, as you can see below, this isn't just any group. It's the "League of Drag Queen Voters" and it is suggesting a little makeover might be in order for some our our mayoral candidates if they are to win the hearts of gay/lesbian voters in town.

That's Mayor Bob Kiss on the left, and Democrat Andy Montroll on the right, as the league might like them to look, based on this humorous link we just got from Burlington drag queen Amber LeMay. For a look at the full link, and how Kurt Wright and Dan Smith were treated in the spoof by the "House of Le May" click HERE.

Comments:
The leather is better than the wig.

If the gays aren't going to take the race seriously, why would the candidates care about their votes?

These pictures are in really poor taste. Hopefully some kid doesn't stumble into this. You might have just referenced the original site. Sam, is it the Post or the Times that is looking for a new cartoonist?

I am outraged by this post. It is in extremely poor taste, is stereotypes homosexuals and alienates the newspapers readers.

I highly doubt the Free Press would post cartoons of an African-American candidates face over that of a monkey.

As a gay male, a productive member of society, and a human; I am just plain disgusted by this post.

Terri, Sam, and Nancy really need to think before they post especially considering that they represent the newspaper in every action they execute.

Go Andy.

Hmmmm. Looks like someone needs a class in Photoshop.

For all those who find this offensive..relax! its political satire! read about it you dont know what that means

Political satire is a significant part of satire that specializes in gaining entertainment from politics. Historically, the public opinion in the Athenian democracy was remarkably influenced by the political satire performed by the comic poets at the theaters.[1]

Political satire is usually distinguished from political protest or political dissent, as it does not necessarily carry an agenda nor seek to influence the political process. While occasionally it may, it more commonly aims simply to provide entertainment. By its very nature, it rarely offers a constructive view in itself; when it is used as part of protest or dissent, it tends to simply establish the error of matters rather than provide solutions.

Won't these silly queens ever learn to take something seriously? As a gay man with absolutely no sense of humor, I'm shocked and appalled by this post. I must say, though, that Montroll's got great abs!

To those who are offended: get a sense of humor. This is a funny piece of satire. Reading the WORDS that go along with the pictures makes them funnier, so please take the time to read the words before you go and say it's "offensive."

To the person who is afraid of kids seeing these photos, how exactly are they inappropriate for kids? There is no nudity. There is no sex. There is no violence.

This is SATIRE. It pokes fun at ALL the candidates, and it is NOT perpetuating gay stereotypes--it is MOCKING the fact that people focus so much on "gay stereotypes."

If you're offended by this, you're probably offended by most of the world. The world isn't PC, and humor shouldn't be, either.

It's called the Queen City for a reason!
