Meeting with the president-elect

Gov. Jim Douglas will join his fellow governors Tuesday in a meeting with President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Douglas, as vice chairman of the National Governors Association, said he expects he will have the floor to address the incoming leaders. With $64 million in immediate budget-cut decisions facing him, Douglas plans to appeal to them for moola. Namely Medicaid and road/bridge moola.

This, he said, is among the best ways to counteract the financial crunch.

Anything else you'd like to have the governor tell the president-elect?

Comments:
Could he tell Obama he's Maine's governor? It's embarrassing to have America's whitest and right-wingiest governor representing Vermont.

Thank God we've got Obama and our Congressional Delegation to bail us out and save us from doogie's incompetence.

Now, he can cut Kindergarten programs and hire ten more pr flacks to justify his boneheaded belt-tightening.

Hey, maybe Leahy could start another one his super-secret double password he-man club investigations of Bush's new pardons! Oooops, forgot....Bush has pardoned less than half of what Hillary's husband did....and they weren't international fugitives like Marc Rich! Oh, well, back to those pesky 7 or 8 fired left-wing attorneys! One of these days we'll get it right!

Bush isn't gone yet. He'll pardon hundreds more before he's gone.

And you know what? That's his right under the Constitution -- just like it was Bill Clinton's right to pardon who he did.

bubba...

"Hey, maybe Leahy could start another one his super-secret double password he-man club investigations of Bush's new pardons!.."

In other words, bubbakis, you're still dumb, you're still scum and you've still got bupkis.

Thanks for clearin' that up, little fella.

Along with his own sorry incompetent butt, let's see who shrub pardons on his way out the door.

They're not just international fugitives and war criminals, they're domestic scum like scooter, rove, cheney, wolfie, rummy and himself.

Always a pleasure.

Check this list out:

Wikipedia isn't a reliable source for information.

That said, Bill Clinton had a Constitutional right to pardon who he did. Presidential pardons are never popular. That's why they are done in the last months in office.

Bush will pardon a bunch of convicted criminals on his way out the door.

It won't be pretty ... but it's his right.

Let's see who he pardons and if he tries to pardon himself.

That would be unprecedented and if he does, all bets are off.

Why would he have to pardon Rove, Cheney, himself, etc.? Last I knew they were honorable men guilty of nothing except looking out for the best interests of our country. I suppose there will be a "court" somewhere in loony towns like Montpelier or Burlington, countries like Venezuela, or even "World Courts" populated by left-wing loons like jw that might find them guilty of offending their precious little sensibilities, but nobody really cares about those fools.

"Wikipedia isn't a reliable source for information."

How about the Department of Justice then?

Thanks for clearin' that up, little fella.

Perhaps Shrub will pardon you for the offenses you have served up over the last year.

jw is temporarily unavailable....he is shopping for Christmas cards for all of his friends on this blog.

Well, little nameless-nitwit fella, if you've got evidence of me committing multiple counts of perjury, obstruction of justice, making false statements to federal investigators, grand juries or contempt of congress by dodging their subpoenas, then by all means, feel free to call a cop.

You've got my name, address and phone and you've sure as hell never been shy about postin' them along with google map directions to the place, little fella.

Grow a pair and drop the dime, iggy slime.

Always a pleasure.

Sure, that's what Goering, Hess, and Spear, etc, said at Nuremberg, bubbakis.

How'd that work out for them, again, little fella?

How'd it work out for Scooter, the Dukestir and the Tedster?

Of course, if they didn't do anything wrong, why are they still dodgin' those subpoenas?

Always a pleasure.

Wow...all of you do a great job of keep on topic.

I think Governor Scissorhands might want to step down as Vice Chairman of the National Governors Assoc. Apparently it is keeping really busy. I mean so busy, he has not done anything to help out his own state. He should not get involved in so many things. And spread himself thin. Just like he told the legislature early this month when he said he would veto gay marriage b/c they need focus on only one issue right now and are not able to multi-task.

Douglas should tell Obama, "I come from the best state in the Nation and I am the worst Governor in the Nation."

"Goering, Hess, and Spear"

Beautiful. Comparing the current administration to people who planned and carried out the systematic murder of 6 million jews and a war that devastated Europe and killed countless millions of others.

Good work, little fella, and here's a toast to your credibility.

What I like about you is your well-developed sense of perspective.

Moron.

The whole world is a paradox and our fair Governor James Douglas is right in the middle of one. GOP Governor James Douglas as vice chairman of the National Governors Association along with Pennsylvania Governor and Chairman of the Association Ed Rendell will be meeting with President elect Obama and V.P. elect Biden on Tuesday of next week asking for the federal government to help out the dire situation that most state governments find themselves in these days.

Governor Douglas has already stated that he will specifically ask for help with Vermont’s troubled financial areas of Medicaid and the falling apart infrastructure of Vermont’s roads and bridges.

The paradox is very clear hear, Vermont is sending a Governor who has fully endorsed a President for the past eight years that believes in trickle down economics. Such economics principles that have brought the state of Vermont like so many other states to the brink of collapse especially in the areas of social services.

Our Governor will be asking for help from a President elect whom espouses Keynesian economic theories of FDR and still Douglas firmly believes in the principles of the trickle down economic theory. Keynesian theory argues that governments should solve problems in the short run rather than waiting for market forces to do it in the long run, because in the long run, we are all dead.

Will our Governor have any leverage when he meets with Obama/Biden? No…but will he have any ideas on how to use the money wisely if he receives any and how to avoid similar conditions down the road. Once again the answer will probably be a no.

What we have here is evident throughout the country where the GOP holds office. They firmly believe that government should be smaller and not come up with any solutions to our problems. Hence their predictions come true when government fails because they reflect back on their principles that it is not governments job to help the people but rather big business should be their to offer their help through jobs and health care.

But that system has faltered in the past and is faltering at the moment because when business’s bottom line is not being met their number one interest is not the people but their profit margins.

Let us hope that Governor Douglas and Governor Rendall come to the table with Obama and Biden this Tuesday with ideas unlike the CEO’s of the big three automakers that came to the table earlier this month looking for money but with no earthly idea on how to change course and use the money wisely. But I do have my doubts for all the smiles and ribbon cuttings we have received from Douglas as our governor these past few years he has been very short on imagination on how Government can make a better difference in our lives and be the big equalizer it is suppose to be. One recent competitor of Douglas’s said it best….”we can do better.” Good luck Douglas and good luck Vermonters with this paradox!!

Question: who will the liberals blame for Vermont being the highest taxed, worst business climate, crumbling roads, and increasing crime and drug problems after Bush has been out of office next year? Reminds me of all of those Louisiana pols scratching their heads after Katrina saying "we just didn't realize those levees were too low" - must be Bush's fault!

You two are the only nameless nitwits who sign your "work".

Always a pleasure.

Well, bubbakis, Vermont will still be be saddled with doogie/dubie debacle incompetence a year from now, that's really not much of a mystery.

"Reminds me of all of those Louisiana pols scratching their heads after Katrina saying "we just didn't realize those levees were too low" - must be Bush's fault!"

Don't be ridiculous, bubbakis. Shrub still had a cluelessly- corrupt, illegitimate-trash, gop-slime Congress helpin' him out in 2005.

In fact, they'd been in place, gummin' up the works and greasin' the skids for six years before he'd even been installed upon the throne.

Like Hoover before him, even shrub couldn't pull off a clueless-cretin caper like that off without the assistance of a cluelessly-corrupt/illegitimate-trash gop-slime Congress preparing the ground and layin' the foundation for him.

A disaster of Katrina's proportions doesn't just happen, bubbakis. After all, Mother Nature didn't hire heckuvajob brownie to run FEMA or put meshuggah mike chertoff in charge of homeland security.

Moreover, given the fact that there was no need for a Homeland Security Department until Bush fell asleep at the switch in the run up to 9/11 and the 9/11 Commission that shrub fought so hard against before naming it recommended the establishment of one as shrub pretended like it was his idea all along, there's nobody else to blame for it.

After all, Katrina was the greatest national disaster in US History and it involved several states. Ya can't very well just blame the Mayor of New Orleans or the Governor of Louisiana for the mess they're still dealin' with in Mississippi where Katrina actually made landfall and did the most damage.

Bay St Louis and Biloxi are a bit outta their jurisdiction, bubbakis.

Ya know, you can start tryin' any time now, little fella.

Always a pleasure.
