A Sterling request

The much-in-flux 2010 state budget has about a million, maybe two, pieces to it. One that is kind of unusual is $350,000 to help Sterling College, which you can read about HERE.

Sterling, a 100-student college in the economically beleaguered Northeast Kingdom, says it needs the money to survive.

Comments:
Sterling College has always been a bit of a joke in the towns around Craftsbury. Most of the students are from exceedingly well-to-do families and are there because they are considered not suitable to be in a main steam college. So, Mom and Dad pay a small fortune to have their kids learn to cut wood and be farm hands.

On the up side several local farmers have found wealthy wives to help finance their debt load.

If the 1:49pm post is correct, seems like a good investment. Have any of the VEDA investments paid-off as well?

A loan would be appropriate for a private college, but a grant crosses the line.

Why shouldn't a private college that is struggling receive help - after all, Jim Douglas hands out $350-400K to the ski areas for advertising, or Douglas hands out money to the frarmers who are struggling.

Looking for a wealthy wife to help me with debt load. Please post your phone number here.

Private colleges get goverment grants all of the time.

Sterling College is a great institution. The students and professors do excellent work.

Sterling is an asset to the Kingdom and to Vermont.
