Numbers are in

WCAX poll results in the gubernatorial race are in:

Douglas: 47 percent
Symington: 24 percent
Pollina: 23 percent
Other/undecided: 4 percent

What that means:

- Pollina is right on Symington's tail. Her support slipped from 33 percent in WCAX's poll of one month ago. Pollina climbed 16 percent since that poll.
- Douglas doesn't have 50 percent, which means the Legislature could decide this thing.
- Pollina's showing explains why Douglas has turned up the heat against Pollina.

The poll also showed a 50 percent favorability rating for Douglas, with 42 percent calling him unfavorable.

Symington had a 34 percent favorability; 45 percent unfavorable; 21 no opinion.

Pollina: 45 percent favorable; 35 percent unfavorable; 20 percent no opinion. Those favorability numbers might also explain Douglas' desire to go after him.

Keep this in mind, however. Polls in 2002 showed Doug Racine would win the governor's race.

Symington's favorables have dropped and her unfavorables rose as Doulgas has beat on her with negitive ads.

If Douglas had spent the same amount of money on Pollina his favs/unfavs would probably be even worse than Symington's. And so would his poll results.

Symington has been attacked by both Douglas and Pollina. Douglas has been attacked by both Symington and Pollina.

So the only one not being attacked has been Pollina. No wonder his poll numbers have raisen, it is simple addition by subtraction.

Heaven knows that is a lot to attack Pollina on!

Lets get this straight the democract is just in the race to prevent the Anthony Pollina the Progressive from gaining ground in Vermont politics. The party of Dean/Leahy/Welch(The Bailout Boys) have no interest in allowing Pollina to advance. They would rather have Douglas win now, and hopefully have one of their loyal soldiers become boss in a few years.

Check out Jon Stewart from last night. John Oliver interviews Obama and then McCain supporters. The Obama supporters say McCain and Palin are scary and the McCain supporters say that Obama is scary. Saying it's scary that someone would vote for the candidate of their choice is really what's scary.

Gaye's peformance in the campaign has been no different than her performance as Speaker....unable to communicate any thought clearly and unable to reach out to those on the other side of the fence to gain their trust.

Shame on the Dem's leadership for not being visible in their support for her. Shumlin has been out of sight after throwing her into the campaign. What a political turncoat (or is it chicken?).

Finally shame on Coopy for suggesting Pollina is the reason Douglas will win. It is turning out that Symington is the spoiler. Want to acknowledge how wrong you were Coopy?

Maybe everyone should take note of exactly how far left the State has become in its views and question if that is really what we want.

Vermont has been the 3rd most liberal voting state in the US so it tells you something when they can't collectively get a liberal 50% of the vote: either they like Douglas or they have seen the light! *will not allow drilling in US
*vows to keep business in US but will raise their taxes, energy costs and wages (unions have chased out businesses)
*No manufacturer will stay here under Obama

We can bicker back and forth over who should be governor of VT. Gaye is highly qualified and a huge policy wonk, yet she may not shine during debates (it is hard to describe your energy policy in 90 seconds). And Anthony has no experience in elected office and may have burned a few bridges in his rise to power, but he can orate.
Whomever you support, we need to unite on this one issue: we need to do something. In order to do that we need to keep Douglas below 50%, as he has not done anything for VTers in his 6 years.

How do we do that? (Great question)
1) stop the attacks against dem v prog/independent
2) start focusing your attacks against Douglas
-Link him to Bush/McCain
-Link him to ignoring what is right for VT
-Link him to poor policy
-Link him to crumbling roads, no energy policy
-Link him to using tax payers $ to fund his campaign
3) Get out the Vote for your candidate
4) Talk to your reps and tell them whom you support

Lastly, cross your fingers and let's hope that Douglas gets kicked out!

Voters should also recall that during nearly 8 years of Bush, only ONE administration official received a criminal conviction - Scooter Libby for a minor offense. On the other hand, during 8 years of Clinton, there were 33 criminal convictions of his administration, not to mention 122 others that refused to testify or took the 5th! Corruption is as American to dimocrats as apple pie is to most of us; hopefully, the thugs will be weeded out in 2010 as was the case for some of the crooks in the Clinton administration within 2 years.

It was the Dems that pushed Fannie and Freddie into high risk mortgages in the 90's as part of Clinton's social programs.

It was Barney Frank that was dating one of the FANNIE staffers when he was on their oversight committee. ...no conflict of there.

It was Chris Dodd taking favorable mortgages from Countrywide Financial... no conflict there either.

The Dems certainly did their best to prosecute the Enron mgmt team for the fraud they perpetrated but don't seem so interested in prosecuting Raines, Frank and Dodd....hmmm.

Memories are short on the liberal side of the house.
