Unusual write-in campaign

Can you make someone become a candidate for an office that he isn't interested in pursuing?

That's what Kevin Kennedy wants to do to Anthony Pollina, using the Internet to organize a write-in campaign to essentially "draft" Pollina to the lieutenant governor's race.

Why would Kennedy do this? Because he thinks -- as do others -- that a three-way race for governor assures the re-election of Jim Douglas. And Kennedy of Marlboro doesn't want that outcome.

So he has set out to change the candidate lineup, not only for governor, but also for lieutenant governor. He believe Pollina would have a better shot at defeating Republican Brian Dubie than Tom Costello or Nate Freeman, the two Democrats who have to duke it out in a primary before facing the incumbent lieutenant governor in November.

Kennedy wants to build a movement, using a newly launched Web site, to write in Pollina's name for lieutenant governor on the Democratic ballot in the primary election on Sept. 9. He estimates only 20,000 people would have to write in Pollina's name to make him the winner.

Of course, Pollina could decline the offer and continue to pursue his top-of-the-ticket dream. Judging by the reaction from his campaign manager, he doesn't appreciate this initiative.

"It isn’t helping our effort," complained Meg Brook, Pollina’s campaign manager.

Couldn't reach Costello or Freeman, but I can't imagine they would appreciate being bumped off.

So what's gained by this? Kennedy said he couldn't just sit on sidelines and watch a "slow-motion political train wreck." You can read the rest of his justification here.

Comments:
Tell Meg Brook that Pollina's efforts aren't helping Vermont rid itself of the jimi douglas experience.

Why don't people tell the Democratic party that they are waisting there time with the "dud" of a candidate(Symington), or are they all too scared to challenge the "system." Anybody who has heard both candidate knows the truth that Anthony Pollina is just the better candidate. I would not want a governor Symington because I have seen the poor job she did as Speaker. Her leadership skills are weak and she does not have the backbone to be governor. If you all care about Vermont, you should support Pollina. If you rather see Vermont continue going to pieces from the Douglass and Symington tenure, then continue lying to yourself.

Nice try 'pain". Your little Republican scam is a misadventure at best!

Jim Douglas has fed himself at the public trough long enough. He claims to "feel your pain" as long as it meshes with his conservative values - yes I said conservative. Jim Douglas wants Vermonters to consider him a moderate but he is far from it.

As for Pollina, he is just job hunting - and Vermont elected office makes sense for him since it is a 2 year gig. You know he has adhd and loses focus from time to time.

Why write Pollina in, when we finally have an opportunity to write him off?

Pollina for Governor.

Pollina = Douglas

Pollina + Symington = Poverty

"Jim Douglas has fed himself at the public trough long enough. He claims to "feel your pain" as long as it meshes with his [conservative] values"

So lets get rid of Sanders and Leahy next time around to. They have been feeding at the public trough even longer!!!! Pollina's incapable, and SImpleton's even worse. Re-elect Jim and find some decent candidates for 2 years from now.

What has Douglas done ????

The state is in the toilet. Jobs are down (15 year low). Roads are crap. Douglas has spent more than Dean ever did and the state doesn't have the budget to sustain it.

But his top officers get bonuses of $10,000 or more.

Time to trim off the dead wood. Time to send Jim Douglas packing.

You all are fools. How can anyone say with a straight face that things in Vermont are not going well while at same time blaming the two parites, however when another alternative is offered you just shrug and say it can not happen.

Maybe all of you pundits are to blame, because anytime some one like Pollina offers a solution you say it can not be done. He is the only candidate offering real solutions and not just the same political rhetoric. Symington and Douglas are the system and they are to blame for the mess we are in. Escape the two party slavery.

Pollina can't run a little milk company, how can he run a state?

Kennedy and Pollina are two sides of the same coin. Both are fairly good at identifying potential train wrecks, not so good at avoiding them. So far, actions by Pollina and Kennedy that they say are ways to avoid potential train wrecks, have turned out to be just other tracks to the same bloody mess. We need Symington.

Face it, it's fourth and forever for our little gop-slime friends. A hail tony pass is about all they've got left to fall back on.

At long last, they have no case, no clue and it's not like they ever had any sense of decency. Don't take away what's left of their ignorant anonymous trash hopes and dreams.

Always a pleasure.

Clearly, reading comprehension ain't your strong suit, little fella.

If incompetent gop-swine like doogie, newt, ted stevens and phil gramm who've spent their pathetic gop-slime lives singing the praises of the private sector while never spending a day in it, trashing government, claiming it doesn't work while getting their incompetent asses elected to prove their point by running their respective states, districts and/or their county into the ground, you'd have a point, but they're not, so ya don't and your ignorant, anonymous trash with bupkis streak remains intact.

Congrats, little fella. I never doubted ya for a second.

"Pollina's incapable, and SImpleton's even worse. Re-elect Jim and find some decent candidates for 2 years from now."

Sure, reelect the jimi douglas experience and stick with the incompetent devil you know.

No sale, schmuck.

Always a pleasure.

Symington for Governor!

The future is Dubie for Governor.
