Not ahead

"We're not going to hear anymore about Democrats and Progressives syphoning off votes. I'ts not true," Pollina said.
Hedging what will surely be used by Democrats to try to urge Pollina out of the race, he said the next poll will probably not show him winning.
"I will be the first to tell you we will not be ahead in the next poll," he said. "We will not be ahead in the money race."

"I ask you what would happen a few years ago if the New England Patriots if they gave up in the third quarter."

Comments:
Terri: At what point are you going to admit being totally and completely fooled? You're live-blogging a non-event of a five-time loser in Vermont politics announcing nothing whatsoever. What's next, a trip to Brattleboro to follow Diamondstone around?

Now I'm beginning to see why all you Vermont media types eventually take jobs as corporate/political flacks. You're well trained for not thinking critically.

Who got stuck for the ice cream?

I think it would be more appropriate for Pollina to be using Buffalo Bills analogies at this point. You know, the team that lost four Superbowls....

Metaphorically speaking, Pollina hasn't ever been in a Super Bowl – never mind lose one.

I think you folks are missing the larger point here.

Politics is a game of chess. Pollina was being strategic about his announcement.

To me, it looks like Pollina was going to to switch to the Lt. Governor's race, but then changed his mind. Either that, or else he deliberately wanted the media to raise that issue so that he could start negotiating that possibility behind the scenes.

He loses nothing by waiting to make the switchover. He may want to see who the democrats will field as a candidate for Lt. Gov.

Pollian is also setting the bar low for himself by saying that the polls will show him in third place. That way, if the polls show him at say 15% or 20%, he'll look at least a little bit decent. That's a smart strategic move.

He's clearly keeping his options open, which in my opinion, is a smart move. Why should he give up the ghost now and switch to Lt. Gov.? If those are his plans, he can always do so later.

Pollina deserves nothing!
Pollina loses big in November!

How dare any of you make fun of Tony after all that he has been through. He’s lost so many elections. He’s lost court battles. He’s lost all of the milk money.

All of you people care about is hatred and politics. He’s HUMAN!!
He hasn’t run an election in YEARS!!

All you want is more more more more more more more more more. LEAVE HIM ALONE!!

You’re lucky he even runs for you bastards.

LEAVE TONY ALONE !!!!!!!!

Before today, Tony had only two things going for him: The lazy Vermont media and his wife's money. So much for the media. Hang on to the wife, Tony!

Now Nancy can can pen a piece about how she was duped. It'll compliment the space the FP allotted to its conjecture story this morning. For the love of God, go out and find some real stories!

Thank you for covering the event Terri. After seeing the press release I was curious and wanted to know what he said.

Pollina and the Progressive Party have got to be kidding!

I'm glad the VT Buzz covered this. I was checking in often today for updates. However, Pollina's PR consultants didn't do him any favor by staging this no news "news conference." Sure, they got some short term gain, but in the long run this will hurt the campaign's relationship with the media. And since I doubt Pollina will be the top fundraiser in this race, he is going to rely a lot on earned media.

Not smart.

Good point but I doubt the Progressive Party would listen to good advice.

Well played, anonymous crying boy. Well played.

And now that the Pollina Campaign Contribution has been dropped off at the laundry, they believe they see light at the end of the tunnel and harbor hopes that they may still have jobs beyond January, the Doogie Campaign collectively exhales.

Yes, the polls will show Pollina in third place, with less than ten percent. If Peter Diamondstone should get in the race, Pollina may show up in fourth place.

Jim Douglas has no better friend than Anthony Pollina. In fact, I can certainly imagine Douglas supporters sending cash contributions to Tony the Phony.

Not a spoiler? What a crock. If Pollina had announced for LT Gov, it really wouldn't have mattered for him---he'd get pasted in either race. Pop goes the weasel!

Go Symington.

I think the strategy is for Anthony to help Gaye get Douglas
under 50%. They really are working together. The Progressives have to help Symington.

I agree. Anthony in the race brings out the Progs and helps keep Dougass under 50 percent. Let's just pray she can marshall the troops to elect her in to office then and not let the cower as they usually do. Oh, the thought of Republican John Rodgers running for speaker is laughable. He's got Dick Mazza disease and everyone knows it. Go lay some brick Rodgers.

Anyone who believes having Tony the Phony in the race somehow helps Gaye Symington is suffering from severe self-deception. Pollina is gift-wrapping another term for Douglas. Pollina=Douglas.

If the race went to the legislature, Douglas would still be the top vote-getter (thanks to Pollina) and would be back for another term.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention: John Rodgers and Dick Mazza have two things Pollina does not: 1. Jobs 2. Personal Integrity. Rodgers for Speaker!

John Rodgers would be a good speaker. Unfortunately, the best candidate for speaker, Robert Dostis, isn't running again. Not that the liberal wing of the party would have supported him anyway, but he's a pragmatist who actually gets things done on important issues.

Unfortunately, like Dick Mazza and John Rodgers, Robert also has a job and wanted to get back to it. Thanks for your service, Robert. Come back anytime.

Nice straw man, scarecrow. The ol' "he'd be good but he'd never get elected because most people don't agree with your ignorant ass/ I'd vote for a Black for President, but Alan Keyes and Condi ain't runnin'" song and dance.

No sale, schmuck. If the Liberal Wing of the Dem Caucus won't elect your man 'cause they're that strong, it's because the voters of Vermont want it that way.

Always a pleasure.

Dismissed.

Rodgers is a swarmy bastard. If you're a Republican, at least have the courage to run as one. But courage is not something Jolly John exhibits very often. He's a lapdog, and I think he likes it.

Mazza only has a job because daddy handed it to him. He could find work as a wax museum character stand in if he wanted. He's super creepy.

Pollina will help Symington - you watch - he says he won't but the Progs are just not that stable.

Pollina will help Symington? Do what---expedite her concession speech? Shame on Anthony Pollina for ruining our state.
