Congress anyone?

Got a missive in the mail from Rep. Peter Welch the other day offering me advice for how to make sure I get my tax rebate.

Without saying anything in it about how the government can't really afford to send us this money, he reminds us to file a tax return even if we don't normally if we want to make sure we receive the dough.

OK, so file everybody.

What it really reminded me of, though, was that Welch STILL doesn't have a known opponent in this fall's election. I know, it's almost as ridiculous as the Democrats not having a known candidate for governor.

Think of the potential consequences. Freshman Welch runs the risk of getting bullied by his congressional classmates for sitting there without an opponent while all of them are sweating their political lives.

What's the word out there about possible contenders?

Comments:
Welch, Markowitz, Spaulding, Sorrell -- all running for re-election unopposed.

The VT GOP just ain't what it used to be!

Why not ask your Gannett bosses why they haven't been able to fund a legitimate candidate to oppose Welch? Of course, if you did ask them that, they would chain you in the dungeon for insubordination. What's it like to work for facists?

Welch's brochure on the rebates is just another version of "Have you been injured?"

Boots Wardinski for Congress. Finally, a man who knows the value of work and the importance of "walking one's talk."

Congress needs Boots, Not Double-Talking Peter.

No, but your factually-challenged/fundamentally-dishonest/delusional-dreck dealer response is just another way of sayin' your ignorant ass has got bupkis, schmuck.

Gee, where's Martha? Evidently, she can't compete unless she's in uniform and the taxpayers are fundin' her campaign.

Why don't you file and run against him, little fella? You've got the nameless nitwit with bupkis vote in your pocket.

Both of 'em.

Disappear.

So, why are you still reading his posts??

Just skip over them.

The Republicans have done a dreadful job of building a bench. They need to focus on key legislative races where they can pick up some seats, and use the gubernatorial appointment power to give up-and-comers higher profiles to assist in future runs. Otherwise, statewide Republican efforts are just withering on the vine. Also, getting a Pres. McCain in office, as opposed to the highly unpopular Bush, will help a great deal with the (un)popularity of Republicans in Vermont, the home state of Calvin Coolidge.

Apparently, a masochistic tendency.

"getting a Pres. McCain in office, as opposed to the highly unpopular Bush, will help a great deal with the (un)popularity of Republicans in Vermont"

McCain's policy positions are the same as Bush's. I don't see how a McCain presidency will make a bit of difference.

I am not sure I agree with that. While McCain is in line with Bush's view on Iraq and the Terror issue, I think on most other issues he is far more middle of the road. In fact over the last weeks he has had to argue that he is a 'conservative'. His divergence from Bush's policy positions is what has the conservative (Bush) base so concerned.

First of all, the Iraq War is a major issue -- and the biggest factor leading to the unpopularity of Bush. On this issue, McCain and Bush have the same positions.

Second, there aren't a lot of issues that the two diverge on.
Both are anti-choice on abortion.
Both are anti-gay.
Both are pro-free trade.
Both are in favor of missile defense.
Both want to attack Iran.
Both want more military spending.
They have the same positions on energy.
Both want to ignore the health care problems.
Both want to extend the huge tax cuts for billionaires.
Both are committed to deregulation of the financial sector.

When it comes down to the issues, there isn’t much difference between McCain and Bush.

True that!

The Dems need to do an add that starts off with Bush delivering a war speech and slowly fade the picture to McCain ending the speech.

Then maybe an add with McCain flip-flopping, denouncing Jerry Falwell one minute then embracing him the next. Scary what a political whore McCain is turning out to be. It'll only get worse. Next he'll be praying with Ralph Reed.

McCain = 4 more years of the same.

I thought the question was about Welch running for re-election. McCain would have to be one of those CARPETBAGGERS if he wanted to run in VT- and obviously he doesn't lean far enough left as the former CB'rs.

Nobody can beat Welch and nobody wants to try.

It really says it all about the quality and qualifications of VT politicans when the two major parties can't find competitive candidates to run for our most important public offices.

Today's postings seem refreshingly civilized. It's a good change.

Yeah, that duo oughta deliver the deliverance vote.

Let's see just how big the scum vote is in Vermont, little nameless-nitwit fella.

Sure, and your nameless-nitwit word is good enough for me, little fella.

Thanks, as always, for that factually-challenged/fundamentally-dishonest/ignorant-trash with bupkis perspective, little never-fail-to-fail fella.

Feel free to continue failing to produce all the non-existent evidence of my non-existent support for Pollina you've been failin' to produce for the past six months, little never fail to fail fella.

Shiite, ya may as well add Boots to the list while your ignorant ass is at it, little factually-challenged fella.

You nameless nitwits never quit while you're losin'. Why start now, nitwit?

Always a pleasure.

I agree that Martha Abbott should run against Deb Markowitz since most of Martha s issues are Sec of State issues but she won't because Deb Markowitz is a Progressive.

She is, eh? Ya best double-check that, little factually-challenged fella, because Markowitz, the Vermont Democratic Party and the Voters of the State of Vermont who elected and keep reelecting her are under the impression that Markowitz is a Democrat.

Moreover, the facts appear to strengthen her case as they nuke yours.

You nameless-nitwits can make bogus allegations ya can't substantiate and spew your ignorant, anonymous slop all ya want and I'm sure you'll continue to do just that.

After all, it's not like the facts are doin' ya any favors.

Nevertheless, you coalition of the clueless cretins can count on me to call ya on your factually-challenged/fundamentally-dishonest delusional dreck whenever the opportunity presents itself and given your history, limited intellect and invisible integrity, I'm sure you'll provide me with ample opportunity to do just that.

Nice talkin' to ya.

Dismissed.
