Obama team hits town

News flash: Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama has deployed seven paid staff workers to Vermont to help the Illinois senator win the state’s March 4 primary.

Rob Hill, who worked for Obama in New Hampshire and Maine, will head up Team Obama in Vermont and says he plans to open up four storefront offices around the state. No word on whether he's got a TV advertizing budget or whether Barack himself will be dropping by before March 4.

Everybody with streak of punditry in their blood has been saying Vermont is Obama's for the taking, except for Mr. Hill, who protests that Hillary has the upper hand because she's so much better known and hails from the state across the lake.

"I think Clinton has a built-in advantage here and in all of the states remaining on the primary calendar," Hill told me Thursday. "She is so well known ... We’re going to be working to introduce Senator Obama to Vermont voters."¶

The move by Obama was not a surprise, but the number of Obama-ites being parachuted in here is. Just a couple of days ago, Vt. Democratic strategist and Obama supporter Carolyn Dwyer said she thought the campaign would send one, maybe two staffers to Vermont by the weekend.

No word from the Clinton front if she plans a counter move. Billi Gosh of Brookfield, a Clinton supporter and a Vermont Democratic National Committeewoman, told me this week that she has appealed to the campaign to send staff to Vermont.¶

No, no. Regan spent tens of millions arming a milita that was set to destroy Ortega.

Sadly, Regan's action's resulted in the slaughter of 30,000+ innocent Nicaraguan people.

It also led to the discovery of the Iran Contra Affair, when Reagan Administration officials broke the law, helped sell arms to Iran and funded and the Contras.

But hey, at least Regan didn't give Saddam Hussein any money ... oh wait ... he did that too.

Reagan gave aid to the Contras to defend themselves from the Soviet-supported communist Sandinistas. Another example of what finally caused the overthrow of the Soviet Empire. Interestingly, when free elections were forced on the Sandinistas and Ortega did win, he eventually was thrown out of office for stealing the country blind for himself and his buddies! He suddenly decided, I guess that he liked living in mansions instead of the jungle.

No, the Soviet Union fell because they ran out of 74 year-olds to replace dead 72 year-olds and Gorbachev took over.

However, Reagan deserves every bit as much credit as Andropov for the collapse of the Soviet Union.

After all of these years, it's always interesting to hear from revisionists like jw that JUST CAN'T GIVE REAGAN CREDIT FOR ANYTHING! I can still remember when John Kenneth Galbraith was telling us how communism was the force of the future! But like most liberal "economists" of those days he was ALWAYS WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING! Amazing how the acorn never falls far from the Oak tree! All one has to do is look at states like Vermont that still think the future is a socialist-communist economy! And then look at New Hampshire.

Just like I give him all the credit in the world for the 241 Marines killed in the '83 Beirut Barracks Bombing, trading arms for hostages with Iran while illegally funneling funds to aid Contra Death Squads and saying and doing nothing when Saddam used the chemical weapons Reagan gave him on the Kurds at Hallabjah on St Patty's Day in '88.

Which reminds me, Saddam was found guilty and executed for War Crimes he'd committed in 1982 when he was fighting a Proxy War for us against Iran. Who was in the WH and controlled the WH the Senate in '82 again, little fella?

The Obama Cult

My friend and I finally had to go..the mass of people was like waiting for the Beatles in the 60’s. People were excited, screaming at times, tears rolling down a couple of faces and instead of throwing undergarments (although we really do think that happened from a ‘Bama girl in the front); everyone was chanting “Yes We Can”. This was an Obama gathering.

Both my friend and I are middle aged white women who are listed as Independents, who have reached what is called success. Our husbands are conservative Republicans. They couldn’t understand our wanting to see a Politician who has people coming in masses. That’s OK; they couldn’t understand our swooning over Elvis when we were in our early 20’s either.

So, here we are. The first thing we noticed, everyone was so young. The fever is starting and that is before the star has even made an appearance. Oh, it’s so Elvis like. We start to get warm too (it’s harder at this age). After having to listen to a couple of well, politicians, who are well, as boring as politicians tend to be….here comes the star. It’s the boxer coming into the arena; it’s the Messiah parting the heavens. The crowd is thunderous. We start to get swished with eager students trying to get “up front”. We look at each other and realize it’s been a long long time since we have been to a concert. But if you watch long enough, Obama has that smile. It’s not exactly like Elvis’ but it is sexy. Obama starts talking and a hush finally takes form. Before long we all are chanting “yes we can”. The moment is now. Obama, Obama, Obama. A woman faints. The majority are enraptured. I think he is nice to look at. My friend says that is “awful” he has a message”. He is gone. Left the stage. We must leave. There is still a hush.

We ask each other, what did you think? We have no idea. We are still a little flushed – perhaps from the packed crowd? We agree he can sure move a crowd no?

We join our husbands and they ask…”so, what is it with him?” We have no idea. Would sexy work? He had us chanting. CHANTING they ask in disbelief. Well, yes. Why? I couldn’t tell you. What does he stand for they ask? We look at each other and can’t come up with one single thing, except the time is now, the moment is now and he is going to make everything better for all of us. And, he sure sounded good saying it.
They remind us – so did Hitler. A chill comes over us…because that is exactly what it was like.

Perhaps it’s time for the young and inexperienced pause for a moment. Perhaps it’s time for us with experience and wisdom to vote for a President of the United States who doesn’t have a cult following but understands the huge responsibility of running a free country.

And like Oz, when the screen is torn away, there sits another typical Chicago-area pol, corrupt as they come, with an empty plate for Americans. I have seen fanatical red-shirted Bernie! supporters at county fairs, slobbering and drooling on themselves just thinking about how they're going to take everything from "the rich" and I'm beginning to think this garbage with Obama isn't much different. But I'm sure our youth will get a heavy dose of this propaganda at their schools!

I am a Vermonter living in California. I'm quite distressed that my fellow Vermonters would fall for the empty rhetoric of Senator Obama. The Vermonters I know can see right through style, and vote for substance. I'm really shocked that there aren't more Clinton supporters out there.

Senator Obama has 2 years as a Junior senator, and his speeches sound like something at a Baptist church revivalist meeting. His marketing machine is very very good, and his volunteers are instructed not to dwell on policy when discussing him, but stress "faith" and "emotion".

I ask you to rethink this overwhelming support for a man that has no substance, and take a moment to do something historic---vote for the first woman president.
