Hillary's team

House Speaker Gaye Symington, D-Jericho, has made no secret of her support for Hillary Clinton. Turns out she's co-chair of the Clinton campaign in Vermont with former Gov. Madeleine Kunin.

Tomorrow they will unveil what the campaign has been or will do in Vermont over the next couple of weeks to try to put Vermont in Hillary's column rather than Barack Obama's.

Rep. Kathy Keenan, D-St. Albans, will participate in the event/conference call to explain the grassroots campaign for Clinton that has been organized in the northern part of the state.

Is this eleventh hour effort for Clinton going to work? Who is going to do the heavy lifting? Symington and Keenan have day jobs for most of the next two weeks at the Statehouse.

Momentum was already building for Obama, with a number of other high profile Democrats taking up his cause weeks ago. The list includes Sen. Patrick Leahy, Treasurer Jeb Spaulding, Attorney General Bill Sorrell, and, in the Statehouse, Senate President Pro Tempore Peter Shumlin, D-Windham. Obama even has the state's ice cream men -- Ben and Jerry.

Comments:
Hillary is toast. This is an exercise in futility. Doesn't shock me though that Gaye supports Clinton. Gaye seems like a DLC kind of politician, which is too bad for Vermont.

The people in Franklin County whom Kathy Keenan thinks will vote for Hillary are the people who vote for Jim Douglas for governor. They'll vote for McCain in November over either Obama or Clinton.

Obama came to Vermont in 2006 to campaign for Bernie. Where was Hillary? Probably too scared to stand side by side with an independent. Wonder what Clinton's camp promised Symington and Kunin?

Why did they have to promise anything? The same could be alleged about Obama's campaign without any solid reason for it also. Get a grip and recognize that people have different preferences. That's what democracy is about.

Nothing better than a good old fashion cat fight among liberals! On this side.....we have the champion, "Shrew woman".....and the challenger..."Empty suit man"!!! May the worse hack win!

I'll take shrew woman and empty suit over hothead geezer any day.

You mean WAR HERO hothead geezer, don't you?

Hothead, nontheless. Not a good personality type for the responsibilities of the position he wants.

Max Cleland and John Kerry were WAR HERO's too.

The Republicans told lies about them and smeared their good names.

"Not a good personality type"????

How about Hillary's lamp throwing psychotic rages at Slick Willie?

Or Barack's dealings with crooked Chicago pol Rezko?

I'll take John McCain, I think.

What the Republicans did to Max Cleland was unforgivable. McCain should have stepped in there and said enough is enough, but no. So much for the band of brothers.

What about McCain's association with the Keating Savings and Loan scandal.
Some of his associates went to prison in that deal.

What about Clinton's involvement in the Whitewater scandal? One of her associates killed himself...

Ahhh. Another reason to vote against Clinton. No more freakin' carping from the GOP about Whitewater.

BTW: Iran/Contra. Well, that don't count cuz that was our boy Reagan.

**NEWS FLASH**

The independent council concluded that there was NO ILLEGAL ACTIVITY in the Whitewater affair.

Will Hillary tell us how to make $100,000 on cattle futures with only a $1,000 "investment"?

Ask Ken Starr. He found that the Clintons did nothing wrong in the Whitewater case.

Exactly, that's why he had to move on and spend millions of tax dollars on a personal vendetta that had nothing to do with Whitewater.

Does anybody care what Kathy Keenan does or says?

The thing I love about blogs and anonymous comments is how much civility it brings to political discourse.

Agreed. Signed, jwcoop.

HILLARY is clearly my choice after last nights debate.

I am a Vermonter living in California. I'm quite distressed that my fellow Vermonters would fall for the empty rhetoric of Senator Obama. The Vermonters I know can see right through style, and vote for substance. I'm really shocked that there aren't more Clinton supporters out there.

Senator Obama has 2 years as a Junior senator, and his speeches sound like something at a Baptist church revivalist meeting. His marketing machine is very very good, and his volunteers are instructed not to dwell on policy when discussing him, but stress "faith" and "emotion".

I ask you to rethink this overwhelming support for a man that has no substance, and take a moment to do something historic---vote for the first woman president.

2:26 Post

You have obviously been gone from VT for a while........empty rhetric rules in the "new" Vermont

Yeah, When do we get rid of Douglas and Smith?

Odd that so many Vermonters support a fellow who is open to increasing the number of nuclear power plants, and is a staunch supporter of ethanol. I'd be willing to bet that most don't know this. Change . . . change . . . change . . .
