Howard's end

Was listening to the VPR interview with Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former Vt. guv and U.S. presidential contender and it got me thinking. What does this guy do when his term as DNC chair is over after the 2008 elections.

Dean will have been a high-profile politician for 17 years when he departs his DNC job. He'll also only be 60 years old, and it's hard to imagine he'll be ready to walk away from politics at that point, especially if a Democrat wins the White House. He's also one of the more opportunistic, right-place, right-time pols you'll ever come across.

Mitch Wertlieb of VPR must have been thinking along the same lines, because the very last question he put to Dean in the interview that aired just before the DNC's meeting with state party officials in Burlington on Saturaday was this: Is there any possibility that you may seek the presidency again some time in the future?

Dean's response was dodgy, to say the least: "Ah, heh, who knows, but hopefully I don't have to even have to think about it until 2016, b which is when the end of the term of the next president of the United States, eight year term, and we hope that person is a Democrat." For a full listen of the interview, click HERE.

So here's the question of the day, campers. Does Dean:
A) Take a job in the next administration if the prez is a Democrat
B) Stick around Washington in some other capacity
C) Land a cushy job and prepare for a future run for the White House
D) Come home to Vermont and run for something here
E) Return to being a doctor
F) Other

I like Dean a lot, but no presidential administration would hire him.

It gives the appearance of being too liberal. (even though he governed Vermont as a moderate.)

The tension between the Dean Wing of the Democratic Party and the Hillary Wing of the Democratic party is well documented.

Dean might run for Pat Leahy's seat if Pat doesn't run in '08.

He's been out of medicine too long to go back to that.

He just might retire.

Hopefully, he'll take Sam Hemingway's job at the Freeps. Of course, HoHo wouldn't do that, because the guys so cheap, he would never agree to pay for his own parking.

Move to NY and run for Senate?

If a Democrat is elected President, Dean should be on the short list for Secretary of Health and Human Services - an ex-governor MD who actually knows something about health care policy would be a natural for that position.

You think that Hillary is going to hire Dean? They hate each other.

Dean will go back to lead Democracy for America, which he founded.

He'll run for Leahy's seat against Douglas.

Maybe Governor Illuzzi will offer Dean a place in his administration.

Hillary will send him far, far away with an ambassadorship he can't refuse.

Nah, ambassadorships are for gas station owners.

Who knows - perhaps he becomes a running mate for someone in 2008... Vice President Dean?

I think he should replace Ed Shamey at the Free Press and continue spinning his jokes, I mean policy

Maybe he could beome a carrier for the Freeps?

Dean is politically invested in losing the war on terror....he is the last person we need in the White House.

Dean has been right about the war on Iraq at every turn.

Bush has been wrong at every turn.

Who shouldn't be in the White House?

That's right, let's capitulate to those who would kill us. Dean has never been right about the war on terror. He just spouts the leftists propaganda. These people want to kill us. HoHo just wants to collect more of George Soros money. Remember MoveOn.org...."The Democratic Party..we bought it, we own it..." It was the money of Soros that enabled that and Dean just lapped it up like candy. What a dink.

1. Dean would be a natural to succeed Leahy.

2. I wouldn't let him touch me as a doctor. When was the last time he picked up a steth . . . a tess . . . a cheth . . . um, you know, that thing with the earplugs and the thingy on the end that listens to your heart?

Maybe he'll continue on that trip he was screeching about in Iowa.

Ambassador to Canada.

Cheney: "I believe we'll be greeted as liberators."

Dean: "George Bush's father had over 100,000 foreign troops in Iraq, many of whom where from Muslim nations. We need to bring troops from those countries back to Iraq to replace our Guard and Reserve troops and one of our two divisions in Iraq. This cannot be an American occupation it must be and international reconstruction effort."

Dean is more qualified for the White House than the turkeys that are in there now.

For all of you who think Dean should succeed Leahy, you'd better be prepared to wait a few more years, because Leahy's term doesn't end until 2010.

Meg, isn't it a good idea to think ahead?

Leahy's only 67 -- if you think he's not running again in 2010, you're nuts.

And Howard would see the Senate as a step down from DNC chair. He will take a figurehead job and get rich.

Leahy will be 70 at the end of his term. Anything could happen. His health could go south. Mrs. Leahy's health could go south (God forbid.)

Or he might just want some quiet time for him and his family.

And HoHo is already is rich. But he might want more ...

70 is the new 50. And Marcelle already went through cancer. I think Leahy has at least 2 more terms in him.

That's the worst thing that can happen, not just to Vermont, but to our great country...more "leaky" Leahy...he's lost most of the hair on his head by placing it where the sun don't shine...

Here's a headline from MSN.com:
"Dean strengthens into hurricane"

I am proud to have Senator Leahy represent us in DC - He has served VT well and will continue to do so.

I actually hope Gov Jim=LessJobs runs against Leahy in 2010 - after he loses to Leahy then we will have real leaders in VT and DC - leaders with vision and compassion - not politicizing every decision.

Leahy what a joke...he's only served the interests of the growing police state...

More big wind...Dean now a Category 3...reminds me of Iowa

Blowhard Dean is now a category 4....I love how this storm has been named!!! This is a perfect next avenue for blowhard Howierd

The Democrats in Vermont are so lost. Our Democrats/Independent in
Washington only serve themselves.

Vermont does not even know what the
democratic party is all about.

Dean is a pathetic joke. A nut case that could only be elected in Vermont. He also is a serial liar that gets away with a lot of it because he refuses to appear on any radio or TV that is not far left, like the entire Vermont press corps save "True North". Can you just picture this mincing little fairy being questioned on True North or ANY FOX show? Only in Vermont.

I'm no left wing liberal, no big fan of Gaye and certainly no fan of Shumlin; but I've listened to True North on multiple occasions and it is a ridiculous program where all the issues are grossly oversimplified.

You don't have to resort to True North or Fox news to be a critic of the ultra left in Vermont. It's not like the only alternative to Gaye & Co. is the ridiculousness of the ultra right.
