ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The funeral of U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy has halted plans for a trip to Alaska by five other senators.
Alaska Sen. Mark Begich had planned to host four senators on a "climate change" tour Friday through Sunday.
Retreating glaciers, forests damaged by invasive species and drying wetlands were on the itinerary. They also planned to visit the North Slope to see the Prudhoe Bay oil field.
Sens. Barbara Boxer of California, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey and Debbie Stabenow of Michigan had planned to attend.
Kennedy died Tuesday. His funeral is Saturday in Boston.
Begich says he hopes the trip can be rescheduled.
