Stimulating talk

A Web site done by the Democratic National Committee lists the estimated benefits by state in terms of jobs created of the economic stimulus plan on the table in Washington.

Vermont would save or create 7,170 jobs by the end of 2010, according to the site. The plan would have a -1.8 percent influence on our unemployment rate, they say.

I'm not entirely sure how they make that estimate because it's going to depend on how the states use the money they have coming.

The site also talks about the meeting between President Barack Obama and Gov. Jim Douglas. Obama is quoted as saying:

"People are being laid off, and that means that governors like Jim are
having to not only deal with declining revenue, but increased social services to
provide support for people who are unemployed as they're seeking work."

I'm sure this would be another WPA which created "make-work" jobs during the depression. Loyal left-wingers would get "supervisory" positions (meaning they sit around coffee shops all day) and occasionally check up on how a job is going (5 or 6 unemployables leaning on shovels digging a single hole). Sounds like the make-work OCCSA of the 70's which really never did ANYTHING except things like spend $500 to produce a cord of firewood to sell for $50. At least the old CCC built some remaining structures! Better to give the stimulus money to small businesses and let THEM produce something!

Obama's stimulus is just a pay back for all the $millions the union gave him during the campaign.
So far, ALL of the jobs created with this stimulus are union jobs-Roads, bridges and schools. These jobs are short lived then what???
How long to get permits for any of these projects?? 3 years-10 years or maybe another beltline- 20+ years.
Let's give a tax holiday to all workers for 6 months and the stimulus would start immediately.

Not sure what Douglas has had to do with the problems that have landed Vermont in it's current mess - namely, the disappearance of jobs and qualified workers to other states due to the liberal's permit reform psychosis and their mania for taxes. Douglas seems helpless, faced with the fact that he has to deal with the collection of radicals, misfits, and just plain idiots that call themselves a legislative body.
