First gubernatorial debate

Mark your calendars. Cancel your vacation. The first gubernatorial debate will be held July 20 -- before the list of potential candidates is even final. (Candidates from major parties have until July 21 to file petitions)

Jim Douglas, the Republican incumbent, and challengers Gaye Symington, Democrat, Anthony Pollina, Progressive, will face off at 5:30 p.m. at the Lareau Farm in Waitsfield.

The Vermont Natural Resources Council, American Flatbread Co. and Vermont Localvores will sponsor the debate, which is open to the public. David Moats, editorial page editor of the Rutland Herald, will be the moderator.

Obviously, based on the sponsors, the focus of this debate will be the environment, energy, food and farming.

The candidates are apparently going to stick around after the debate for a supper and music by a jazz trio. Get the details here.

--- Nancy Remsen

Comments:
Douglas and Symington must be happy they are debating at a farm. This way, the sounds of the real crickets will mask the sounds of the crickets following any question directed to either of them.

VNRC, Vermont Localvores, and David Moates. Now that's going to be an objective debate.

What comes after that extreme - a debate sponsored by Vermont Renewal and moderated by Kevin Blier?

"VNRC, Vermont Localvores, and David Moates. Now that's going to be an objective debate..."

Ya feel the need to follow fact with fiction and hope with hate, little factually-challenged nameless-nitwit fella?

Ya think doogie's gonna need a few softballs from the tunbridge taliban to keep him in the game, even with Pollina gummin' up the works, little fella?

Always a pleasure.
Dismissed.

Then he goes on to say "....a few softballs from the tunbridge taliban".

The Turnbridge taliban? No hate-speak there Coopy, you hypocrite.

And by the way, since you are the first to spellcheck each and every posting, Turnbridge is capitalized.

** SAM HEMINGWAY **

When will we see the retraction for your post "Anthony's Ag-ony"

NOFA Director Enid Wonnacott said, "For Sam to say that we’re attacking Anthony is simply wrong. I don’t have a beef with Anthony,”

Sam was WRONG.

Where is the retraction?

Man up Sam. Print the retraction.

Hey... When will Anthony stop being a hypocrite?

For years he has been critical of Democrats, then when it suits him, he asks for their unqualified endorsement and a clear shot at Governor Douglas!

Anthony is nothing more than an oopportunist - and not a very good one at that!

True, but that does not mean that Sam Hemingway can print things that are basically lies.

The truth is that Anthony is the only thing standing between another two years of the jimi douglas experience and a competent Governor.

Pollina's singular contribution to Vermont politics is infecting the Vermont bloodstream with brian dubie. Irrespective of his intentions, that is the reality of his actions.

In a two-person race, Doogie is vulnerable. In a three-person race, he's invincible.

Even if the Legislature can come up with a veto-proof majority in the House, Vermont can't take another two years of the jimi douglas experience.

That is a fact.

Coop would like to see the hand-outs expanded and as long as someone else was paying the bill it would be ok with him.
Douglas has done a terrific job of keeping these runaway programs in check.
VOTE DOUGLAS/DUBIE 2008

NEK...

"Coop would like to see the hand-outs expanded and as long as someone else was paying the bill it would be ok with him."

I would, eh? As always, feel free to have your ignorant, ill-informed, bupkis-spewin' ass point out just where and when I say that, nekkie boy.

That's what I thought.

In other words, you're still dumb, you're still scum and ya still got bupkis.

Thanks for clearin' that up, nekkie boy.

"Douglas has done a terrific job of keeping these runaway programs in check. VOTE DOUGLAS/DUBIE 2008"

He has, eh? That must be why your ignorant, ill-informed, coalition of the clueless cretin ass is here bitchin' about the runaway costs of everything in Vermont 24/7, nekwit.

Nice try, nekkie boy. No sale.

Get newt to draft ya a petition to drill for oil on the State House lawn and see how many of your coalition of the clueless cretin comrades will sign it for ya by the end of the July 4th Weekend, little fella, so you'll have some new nekwit nonsense to to kvetch to me about next week.

Always a pleasure.
Dismissed.

Douglas hasn't done a single thing as governor.

When there is a problem he just points fingers.

Big waste.

Pollina=Douglas.

go pollina

Pollina can beat both of them.

"Pollina can beat both of them."

No, he can only inflict another two years of the jimi douglas experience on the State of Vermont.

Haven't we suffered enough?

Is Gaye Symingtons husband going to campaign for her or is he a Progressive?

Lots of opinion from Coopy but no fact again. Care to substantiate anything you have said little man? One might begin to think you are the leader of the clueless coaltion.

Only if they were ignorant anonymous trash with bupkis and without a case or a clue, little nameless, caseless, clueless, can't spell coalition or figure out how to use spellcheck, nitwit fella.

That's a fact.

Always a pleasure.
Dismissed.

I'm sure Gaye Symingtons family will campaign very hard for her.
