Bernie's troubles with the neighbors

Plenty of people thought Bernie Sanders wouldn't fit into the Senate. It appears, though, he's having a harder time fitting into the neighborhood, where they apparently expect him to either tend to his yard, hire a gardener or spray his yard with weed killer.

This from The Hill newspaper (you can read the whole thing HERE):

Like senator, like home: Sanders’s yard is an eyesore
By Betsy Rothstein

A senator lives next door. That should increase the property value, right?

Not so in the case of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who lives in a northeast Capitol Hill neighborhood just blocks from his office in the Senate Dirksen Office Building. Sanders lives at a beautiful historic address, but some of his neighbors are fed up with the overgrown weeds they say make his yard a monstrosity, not to mention the talk of the street. Some were joking about the matter one evening earlier this week, but there are serious undertones.

“I understand he’s a busy man, but can’t he afford a gardener?” one neighbor asked. “Or [Ortho’s] Weed-B-Gone? Basically spray the whole yard with weed killer.”

Some may note that the senator with the socialist standpoint is as rumpled as his yard. “Like house, like senator,” the neighbor said. “If you look at the four yards surrounding his, everyone takes care of their yard. I think it’s an eyesore.”

...

“I’m glad I come from Vermont where neighbors actually talk to each other," he said. "In the four days a week that I usually spend in D.C., most of my time has been spent trying to address the war in Iraq, the oil crisis, global warming and the collapse of the middle class. My so-called garden is about two square feet. I’m sorry if I offended anyone and I will do my best to get rid of the 12 weeds so anyone who might want to can see the McCain sign in my neighbors’ yard.”

Comments:
The million dollar man can't afford to have his lawn cut? Instead all he can do is be sarcastic...what an AH

Tarrant should have made this a huge campaign issue.

It so totally matters.

This is a major scandal.

Gardengate.

Proves the point as to what kind of person Bernie is! Why doesn't he have one of his followers pick weeds?

Apparently he is no more adept at keeping up the appearance of his garden than his personal appearance.

The quote speaks volumes about him.

Just your typical obnoxious New York City flatlander. He will never have any class.

As a lifelong Vermont, the trend of ours that bothers me the most is our self-righteousness. That last quote from Bernie is a perfect example of it. Our holier-than-thou attitude is not something to be proud of.

Bernie should reach out to the DIY show "Desperate Landscapes" and have them come in and make his yard pretty for the nebby neighbors. Leave it to the sad bunch of GOPers in here every day to start crying about this as if it were a real issue. Must be a slow news day for Terri as well. Guess the session is over. Now we begin reporting this kind of crap.

Why should this be surprising? Bernie is a slob. I have never seen him when his hair has been combed, his shirt has been anymore than only partly tucked in his pants or his clothes don't look like he slept in them.

He makes $165K for cripes sake and represents us (painfully) to the rest of the country in a responsible position. Have someone iron your clothes and weed your garden. You certainly can afford it.

"Some may note that the senator with the socialist standpoint...."

Nice description of the Senator ...a socialist.

I hope Betsy Rothstein cleared this statement with our resident political know-it-all and defender of the party line, Coopy, to ensure she has acceptable facts to defend her article. I wouldn't want her to be caught serving up factually-challenged, coalation of the clueless, shrub-lovin', GOP-slop.

Guaranteed, the boys down at the He-man Woman-haters Club will be talking about this.

Much ado about nothing. How about speaking to your neighbor first before making a public political issue of something so trivial (2' x 2')! Must be quite an eyesore. The crux is probably the McCain sign. How petty.

Nice work Bernie. This keeps Vermont in the press.
I know George Bush is responsible!

David Crosby and Graham Nash will be testifying on this issue before a Congressional sub-committee later this month .

Coopy will keep us informed on the goings-on.

Congressional subcommittee chaired by the McCain sign neighbor?

Bernie: Let it grow! Weed killers are bad for the environment, and you are too busy saving the world to bother with maual labor.

I can see why an old VT hippie like you likes thumbing your nose at those DC preppies. While you are at it, let your hair grow longer and stop shaving!

Another fine GOP Congressman gets tangled up:

"Rep. Vito Fossella of New York acknowledged on Thursday that he fathered a child from an extramarital affair, answering questions that arose from his arrest on drunken driving charges last week."

What a shocker.... stupid things are done by people in all political parties.

In terms of newsworthiness, it ranks right up there with 'The Sun Rises in the East'

Has anyone tried smoking that weed?

12 plants. That should get Bernie through the year -

In other words, actual facts.

That certainly would differentiate herself from your ignorant, anonymous ass, little fella.

"I wouldn't want her to be caught serving up factually-challenged, coalation of the clueless, shrub-lovin', GOP-slop."

Gee, is your ignorant, anonymous, "coalation" of the clueless ass gonna try and bust her for copyright infringement now, too, little lunatic-fringe, litigious fella?

Just send it straight to the "wholly without merit" department. You know the address. Clearly, you're well acquainted with each other.

"Guaranteed, the boys down at the He-man Woman-haters Club will be talking about this."

"Guaranteed," eh, little tip your hand much fella.

In other words, you're dumb, you're scum and ya got bupkis.

Thanks for clearin' that up, little fella.

Always a pleasure. Always a piece of cake.

Dismissed.

yawn

jw is just upset that he's about to lose another one of his left-wing talk-show heros, Bernie Ward, who's about to be sent to iron city for child porn. Maybe he can get Al Franken for a cell mate. Actually he should be smart enough to do these things in Vermont where he could have gotten a limp slap on the wrist and maybe gotten a government job with the city of Burlington.

Save some room at the Iron city Hilton for our pal Al Sharpton. It seems he may be having a few tax problems of his own.

And more than a few Republican Congressmen.

Bernie has got to get busy helping Anthony Pollina!

This is so typical of the DC/VA/MD mind frame. I am a transplant Vermonter in the Annapolis area - and the neighbors blasted me for the unusual ground coverings – dandelions, violets and such. Our place is the only lawn in the area that the birds flock to because we have live worms. The neighbors’ Chem(o)Lawn all run off into the Bay and they blame it on the farmers fertilizers folks! Bernie - turn it into a vegetable garden!

stick it to em Bernie!
