Out of the mouths of out-of-staters

One of the coolest things about the Vermont Statehouse is its simplicity. There isn't a whole lot of spare room there, which I would venture to say is a good thing. It means there's no place to hide, and that's good for government, though it can be tough on the knees.

Today I overheard someone asking a page (the 8th-graders who spend a few weeks working in the Statehouse delivering messages) where the minority leaders' office was. Clearly an out-of-stater. The minority leader's office is his desk in the House chamber. When the House isn't in session, you can often find him there conferring with the assistant majority leader. The majority leader's office often is a table in the cafeteria or a space in the corner of the speaker's office.

Space was at a premium this morning in the Senate Economic Development Committee, where I squeezed in with about 50 people who were interested in the Abenaki recognition issue (shown here at right). If I've learned one thing after four years of traversing the Statehouse, it's how to pick a spot in a room. In this particular one, there's a lot more space at the far end than near the door, so it's worth climbing over people to find sanctuary on the other side. Get caught near the door and you likely will get caught upside the head by the door.

Based on the looks on their faces, it wasn't very comfortable for the people crammed in on that side of the room, but it's the price we pay for government that's close to the people.

The governor himself has a spacious ceremonial office, large enough to host several Scout troops at a time, but his staff has an oversized water closet. It's a wonder they can stand each other.

George Bush will eventually be ranked with Harry Truman, a president with a lower approval rating than Bush. He was not a favorite with the liberal media, either. However, I doubt if any future congress can match the 20% approval ratings of Pat, Bernie, and Peter! (I hope Vermonters, hurting bad enough because of the liberal fools running this state noticed that the three stooges have all voted to restore Bush's tax cuts!)Oh sure, only on "the rich"!

3.) No really, in the 20 years I have gone to Trinity United I never heard Reverend Wright make any comments like that! I am appalled.

As O.B. explained on Fox today, he apparently was not in attendance any time when anything like this was said...ever....no really...ever. Just how often does O.B. go to church?

jw makes unfounded charges in his 7:41 3/14 rant as to who supports McCain, such as the Klan, Hamas, PLO, and on and on. Unlike the "rev" Wright who has even served on Barack's election committee, there is no proof or even a suggestion by non-lunatics that Hamas, PLO, and the Klan support McCain. As a matter of fact, it would behoove Hamas and the PLO to support Barack as he will turn over Israel to them on a silver platter.

Let's see Barack said:

1. Last week he said: I was never in attendance when Rev. Wright said those things. Then this week he said I did hear them but didn't agree with them. So much for telling the truth and credibility.

2. He said you have to understand the Black view of racism to put the comments in perspective. The problem is the comments weren't about race, they were about hate mongering and anti-American views.

3. He said even his poor white Grandmother has said she is afraid of black men on the street. I assume she said that in private to Barack expressing her feelings and fears. Rev. Wright made his comments to a packed congregation intending to incite the crowd against the U.S.

4. The grandma comment was classic. Throw her under the bus to rationalize your association with an anti-American nut job. B.O. has no shame.

5. He said he doesn't/can't disavow Wright but has no qualms about dropping him from his campaign committee. Clearly this guy doesn't have the strength of his convictions.

So why did Barack stay in that church for 20 years being mentored by his 'crazy old uncle'? Unlikely because the message of Christianity (that is taught many places with less hate talk). More likely it is a big church in his voting district and an ideal place to build his political basis. The ends justify the means.

Unrelated to Rev. Wright, BO has recently given an interview to a Chicago paper explaining he didn't realize how deeply Rezko had been involved in his past campaigns.

If this is a campaign about who has exercised the best judgment over their career, you have to question B.O's. Does this sound like a man of integrity? No... He sounds like just another Chicago politician.

I find it interesting that the man (Obama) who didn't want to make the nomination campaign a discussion of race has now made it exactly a conversation about race as a way to deflect the questions of his association with a hate-monger.

Wright, Rezko, Ayers....there are far too many associations with questionable characters and too many attempts to brush them under the carpet and believe this is a man of true character. He is just another scheming politician.

I believe BO has said it is time to "move on" from this conversation. For those that don't know, that is liberal-speak for 'I don't have a good answer to your legitimate questions so let's just talk about something else'.

NBC canned Imus because the Advertisers were afraid of a consumer boycott and pulled their ad buys, schmuck.

What is actually interesting as you think about the recent furor over Rev. Wright and BO's speech on race is the thing Barck won't address.... the breakdown of the family and particularly Black family.

*Nearly seven in 10 black babies are born to single mothers today.

*These children will fail in school at higher rates than those born to two parents.

*They are more likely to become involved in criminal activity. Their poverty rates will be higher.

*And they are far more likely to repeat this pattern by giving birth to or fathering a child out of wedlock themselves.

It's nto isolated to the African-American community, similar trends albeit to a lesser extent exist in the Hispanic and White communities also.

One blogger on a different site points out BO had the great opportunity to do this in his speech when talking about how his Grandmother raised him but he chose not to. Instead he sterotyped Grandma as a closet racist tossing her under the bus.

It's unfortunate that the guy that didn't want to make this election about race has done just that.
