What they're saying, pre-speech (Updated at 1:28 p.m.)

What do Statehouse regulars, and visitors, want or expect to hear when the guv takes the stage in an hour? Feedback from the bus, the cafeteria and the hallways:
-- "Legislators don't like to hear about limits, but they need to." John O'Kane of IBM. State government grown bigger than we can afford,he said, and there isn't going to be enough revenue to go around.
-- "We'd like to hear about universal, affordable health care." -- Lindol Atkins, a retired Water Department worker from Burlington who lobbies for the State Labor Council.
-- "I think the message is going to be more upbeat and optimistic." -- Sue Allen, editor of the Barre-Montpelier Times-argus and a former press secretary in the Howard Dean administration. Democrats have gotten some ink with their complaints that Douglas sends a negative message about the difficulty of doing business in Vermont. He may respond in his speech, she thought.
-- "Highways and infrastructure." -- Rep. Bill Johnson, who represents a huge swathe of the far Northeast Kingdom in the House. His constituents are tired of their cars bottoming out on "crumbling" state highways, he said.

Comments:
O'Kane has it right. Vermont government spending needs limits. Couch them in any language necessary, but the spending spree must come to a halt. Too many special interest groups create too many priorities.

With elections in November, lawmakers will be especially reluctant to say 'enough.'

Okane is a hired hand. 'nuff said.

The Titanic heads for the icebergs and the Lindol Atkins of the world are urging full steam ahead.

We need a new Speaker who can build coalitions.

Welcome to cliche island. Have a nice day.

Ya mean like the tired ol baseball cliche you're always usin? Ya know, about being at the plate and not swingin, blah, blah, blah?

Nah, mine are apt. Yours are gop-slop. I know what I'm talkin' about. You don't. That's I'm me and you're laff.

Always a pleasure.

A new speaker and a new pro-tem!

As fact-filled and substantive as ever, little anonymous fella.

It's not a case of me always being right, it's more a case of you and bubbles invariably being wrong.

Always a pleasure.

Such as? Just which Dems do you suggest the Dem Majority replace them with, laffy boy?

That's what I thought.

Always a pleasure.

"Such as? Just which Dems do you suggest the Dem Majority replace them with, laffy boy?"

Oh, so "I'll-sell-my-mother-for-a-buck" Shumlin and "Pete, how should I vote" Symington are the best we got?

That's up to the Dem Caucus to decide, laffy boy, since you're unable or unwilling to answer the question posed to you.

I don't know what your beef is with Shumlin. You just don't like the guy. That's fair enough, but you can't fault the guy's performance. He's got an overwhelming majority. He doesn't have to ride herd on his Caucus.

You're just a gop pretending to be a Dem who votes for gops all the time. In other words, you're not a Dem. At best, you're an Independent. There's nothing wrong with that. I don't see why you feel the need to lie about it for Christ sake.

Symington's a different story. She's got to keep her Caucus together. If Doogie won't negotiate in good faith, Symington has got to be able to play hardball with him. She can't let him roll her like he did last year.

I see no reason why she can't but she's the one who's got to do it.

That's not exactly a secret. She knows this better than anyone.

It's like Jon Lester with the Red Sox. He can't throw 90 pitches before the end of the fifth inning and he can't go 3-2 with every other hitter he faces. He knows that as well as everyone else but he's the one on the mound. Nobody can do it for him.

She either does the job or she doesn't.

More of the sickening sports analogies from a dork who probably got beat up by the girls' dodge-ball team as a kid.

Sorry, gypsy lady in the tent at the circus with the crytal ball, you have no idea who I vote for (or what you're talking about).

You just think you know everything. It's sad.

In other words, bubble boy's got bupkis.

That'll happen when nitwits who claim Japan and Nazi Germany posed no threat to the US during WWII and FDR caused the Depression pretend to know their ass from their elbow.

As always, bubble boy, thanks to you and your little anonymous buddy for proving once again that there are Vermonters who know which end is up, what day it is and give a damn about Vermont and this Country and then there's ignorant, ill-informed, gop-slop spewing, UnAmerican trash like you.

Always a pleasure.

Nice try, nitwit. It's not a question of me knowing everything.
It's purely a matter of you not knowing your sorry butt from third base and your eternal desire to keep it that way.

Always a pleasure.

"In 2006 the general election choice was between Jeffords the Republican and Flanagan the Democrat."

Actually, it was between Bernie Sanders, Independent and Richie Tarrant - the gop clown who pulled a full-court Mittwit spending 7million bucks "introducing" himself to Vermont only to make himself less popular than he was before we knew him, but if you wanna keep proving you don't know your ignorant, ill-informed butt from your elbow, I wouldn't dream of standing in your way.

That's entertainment.

"You made the statement that "Dems don't vote for GOPs."

Yeah, I did. It's also my position that cats don't have litters of puppies.

Ya wanna take exception with me on that score now, too, laffy boy?

"So, if in the 2006 general election, a Dem voted for Jeffords instead of Flanagan, he/she isn't a Dem?"

If you can produce an Official 2006Ballot with Jeffords running against Ed Flanagan, I'd be as interested in seeing it as the BFP and everyone else residing here in the real World.

We never tire of your Bizarro World Blarney.

"So, if in the 2006 general election, a Dem voted for Jeffords instead of Flanagan, he/she isn't a Dem?"

Yeah. They're also an idiot who doesn't know what day it is, they're also a moron who doesn't know what year it is, a damned liar or both.

"I am a Dem and I voted for Jeffords."

No, you're an idiot who not only doesn't know what day it is, you don't even know what year it is or who was on the 2006 ballot you allegedly used to vote on.

Keep it up, laffy boy. Like Bubble Boy's "Japan and Nazi Germany posed no threat to us during WWII" shtick, this is far and away the best material you've come up with yet for your ignorant gop song and dance act.

Always a pleasure.

(1) I never said FDR caused the depression. I stated that it was as bad in 1941 as it was in 1932. Jerk.
(2) As to Japan and Germany - if, as you and your fellow pond scum scream daily, Islamo-fascists are no threat to the U.S., even with the world of nukes available today - how could a country with a stinking V2 rocket that barely made England, or a country with NO long range rockets at all be considered a threat to us?

Dismissed, moron.

Really? And your offer of proof for that ludicrous assertion is.......?

That's what I thought.

"(2) As to Japan and Germany - if, as you and your fellow pond scum scream daily, Islamo-fascists are no threat to the U.S.,"

When did I "scream Islamo-Fascists are no threat to the US," bubble boy?

Feel free to cough up a quote. If I scream it daily you should have no trouble furnishing one for me and everyone else to see, little fella.

Take your time. You're not going anywhere. I'll just set a spell, rest my weary bones and enjoy the view. I just loves watchin' ya dig your own grave, bubble boy.

If ya wanna take a break from diggin', feel free to show me where Islamo-Fascist is on the map again.

That's what I thought.

"...even with the world of nukes available today - how could a country with a stinking V2 rocket that barely made England, or a country with NO long range rockets at all be considered a threat to us? "

"Well, little fella, if in addition to being "no threat to us at all," Japan had
"NO long range rockets at all", how did they manage to attack Pearl Harbor, sink or severely damage most of the US Pacific Fleet's Battle Ships while destroying most of our Army and Naval Aircraft on the ground before Officially Serving the US with a Declaration of War?

Doesn't that fly in the face of your latest laughably pathetic attempt to equate Al Qaeda's 9/11/01 Attacks with Pearl Harbor, U-Boat sinkings of US Merchant Vessels and Official Declarations of War by Japan and Germany on the United States of America?

Moreover, how did Al Qaeda manage to launch the 9/11 Attacks without ICBMs to say nothing of the absence of nukes to put on top of them. They just flew planes into them. Who coulda seen that comin'?!!

What's more, they didn't even have their own planes. They had to hijack ours.

Did Japan hijack our planes when they attacked Pearl Harbor or did they have their own?

That's what I thought.

Can you imagine if , oh, say, Japan, for example, had used planes to fly into buildings and ships?!!

If there were Japanese "Homicide Bomber Pilots" during WWII surely Ollie North would have said so on Fox News Channel, for Christ Sake, don't ya think?!!

Of course, they might have called them something other than Japanese "Homicide Bomber Pilots"

They didn't even have their own planes?

Refresh my memory, bubble boy. Did Japan have their own planes or did they just hijack ours?

How many Islamo-Fascist U-Boats have sunk US Merchant Ships up and down the east coast within sight of land, bubble boy?

Which "Islamo-Fascist" Country has an ICBM or two capable of reaching the US with a nuke to put on top of it?

Was the Japanese Navy bigger than Al Qaeda's? How about their Army?

How about Hitler's Army? Navy? Was Germany's Luftwaffe as big as Al Qaeda's? How about Japan's?

That's what I thought.

Keep diggin', schmuck. I'm really enjoying this suicidal stupidity shtick of yours?

Dismissed.

As a matter of fact I agree with most of what FDR and HST did. Apparently when it came to sacrificing millions of lives, locking up Japs (That's your liberal hero, Earl Warren, by the way)executing enemy spies (the Germans captured off the East coast on a spy mission)and in general curtailing certain liberties until the end of the war is O.K. when it is a democrat (and you can bet both would have been drummed out of the party, and idiots like those fools in Vermont "demanding" their impeachment) that runs the show (i.e., moron, see JFK and Vietnam).

Weren't you one of those smelly hippies yelling "Hey Hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today"?

What a pathetic jerk!

Sure ya do, schmuck.

Nice try. No sale. You're toast, bubble boy.

You're on the record, schmuck:

"As to Japan and Germany - if, as you and your fellow pond scum scream daily, Islamo-fascists are no threat to the U.S., even with the world of nukes available today - how could a country with a stinking V2 rocket that barely made England, or a country with NO long range rockets at all be considered a threat to us?"

I just loves watchin' you and your nameless, senseless little buddy thrash about and try to keep your heads above the sea of gop-slop nonsense you're goin' down in.

First ya dig your own graves, now you forge your own anchor and supply your own rope and I'm all too happy to throw it to ya in lieu of a lifeline.

"Apparently when it came to sacrificing millions of lives,..."

Who sacrificed millions of lives, bubble boy? Isolationist Gops kept us out of WWII.

Feel free to elaborate, cough up some evidence to support your latest load of rubbish as you continue to make a complete ass outta yourself.

I wouldn't dream of denying you your right to amuse and entertain me.

Once again you continue to show how little you know or care about this Country and its History. Almost as much as you hate it and everything it stands for.

"...locking up Japs (That's your liberal hero, Earl Warren, by the way)executing enemy spies (the Germans captured off the East coast on a spy mission)and in general curtailing certain liberties until the end of the war is O.K. when it is a democrat..."

I know all about Governor Earl Warren, Executive Order 9066 and Manzanar, nitwit.

I also know all about 100th Battalion/442nd Regimental Combat Team who fought as hard as anyone who ever wore a US Uniform.

Ask Bob Dole.

Look it up. Learn something.

I'll give ya a hint, bubble boy. Ya can rule out Reagan, Nixon and John Wayne right off the bat.

"(and you can bet both would have been drummed out of the party, and idiots like those fools in Vermont "demanding" their impeachment) that runs the show (i.e., moron, see JFK and Vietnam)."

And your offer of proof in support of this statement is.....?

That's what I thought.

"Weren't you one of those smelly hippies yelling "Hey Hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today"?

No, I was a Freshman in HS.

Nice try, nitwit. You're toast.

Dismissed.

Oy, you're shameless. Now you're asking him to prove he didn't say something.

Ass.

Ah, so now you're signing your slop as Ass, eh? Good choice. It suits ya.

I am, eh? Where?

That's what I thought.

Always a pleasure, little fella.

Hey, JerkWater - still waiting for your "evidence" that JFK was about to "end" the Vietnam War! (This always shuts him up for a little while)

Nice try, bubble boy.

Still waiting for your evidence in support of the follow:

bubba said...

"As anyone with even a brain the size of jw should know, the only thing Roosevelt did to get us out of the great depression was WWII. Things were as bad in 1941 as they were in 1932, but the war against countries posing absolutely no threat to us bailed out the U.S. and gave us a booming economy."

And when you're done with that, young man, you can get cracking on making this case:

"Unions didn't strike back then, American traitors were jailed, illegal aliens were deported, not merely regarded as future votes by the democrats, and when the Japs wouldn't surrender, by God, we nuked them! How well received do you think FDR and HST (or even JFK) would be by today's crop of lily-livered, pablum-puking, fairy-dusting, ACLU-loving, surrender-monkeys that run the dim party?"

Then you and the little fella can take turns rubbing Aloe on each other's burns.

Always a pleasure.

Give it a rest.
