Impeachment meltdown

You wanted a vote on impeaching Vice President Dick Cheney? (Some of you out there did, anyway) You got it. Today in the U.S. House, courtesy of the Republicans. I'm not making this up.

It went like this, according to the AP:

House Democrats on Tuesday narrowly managed to avert a bruising debate on a
proposal to impeach Dick Cheney after Republicans, in a surprise maneuver, voted
in favor of taking up the measure.

Republicans, changing course midway through a vote, tried to force
Democrats into a debate on the resolution sponsored by longshot presidential
candidate Dennis Kucinich. The anti-war Ohio Democrat, in his resolution,
accused Cheney of purposely leading the country into war against Iraq and
manipulating intelligence about Iraq’s ties with al-Qaida.

“We’re going to help them out, to explain themselves,” said Rep. Pete
Sessions, R-Texas. “We’re going to give them their day in court.”

Democrats countered by offering a motion to refer the proposal to the House
Judiciary Committee for further study, effectively preventing a debate on the
House floor. That motion passed by a largely party-line vote of 218-194.

Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., voted with his party to refer the resolution to committee.

The White House used the same line Gov. Jim Douglas used about Democrats in Montpelier, saying that Democrats were shirking responsibilities on issues such as children's health insurance “and yet they find time to waste an afternoon on an impeachment vote against the vice president. ... This is why Americans shake their head in wonder about the priorities of this Congress.”

Of course, it would lasted only a short while in the House if the Republicans hadn't weighed in.

Comments:
If anyone had any doubts about what total, utter fools the dimocrats are, they should have been left with no doubts after today. Hey, why don't all these nutcakes in Vermont that want to impeach Cheney and Bush find out where Kucinich lives and move there? There must be a lot of similar morons out there, plus Vermont would get rid of a bunch of crazies! WIN-WIN!

"Of course, it would lasted only a short while in the House if the Republicans hadn't weighed in."

Who started it? Not the Repubs. Shame on the Dems for letting Kucinich run out of control. I'm not a big Bush fan but do think the White House is right. The Dems are wasting time.

I agree.

I'm not a Douglas fan but his comment is right on when it comes to this issue.

I wasn't in favor of impeachment initially, but now realize it's extremely important. Some of you conservatives are going to want to impeach Hillary the second she enters office. The Democrats won't move on impeachment now because they know it's a very strong chance they'll win after 8 years of the Bush fiasco. They want to be able to do whatever they would like to do in office without the fear of impeachment. Is all this fun for you? Does it feel, at all, that you aren't represented? Average Americans have less and less say about our government and that's a scary fact.

"Is all this fun for you? Does it feel, at all, that you aren't represented? Average Americans have less and less say about our government and that's a scary fact."

Our government is a Federal Republic. Your "say" is designed to be through your elected officials. If you feel you have less and less say, I think you need to question whether Leahy, Sanders and Welch are responsive to you and your needs. If not don't vote for them.

This is how leftists all over the country "talk" when blogging because they are so lacking when it comes to positive or intelligent thought. Look at the left-wing morons in Vermont that can't complete a sentence without a "f---" in it, usually aimed at our President or other elected officials doing their jobs. Sad.

I rest my case.

"F*** Bush and F*** you."

If there was anything that would ever compel me to be a liberal, it's a clever reply like that.

I recall that Dick Cheney is the one who used inappropriate language to Patrick Leahy--a Vermont liberal--on the floor of the Senate of the United States.

"F*** Bush and F*** you."

"I recall that Dick Cheney is the one who used inappropriate language to Patrick Leahy"

....Dick C, is that you posting on this blog again?

Geesh what a salient point. It rationalizes everything.

It is just as rational as Bubba's comment that all liberals are foul-mouthed.

No one said it rationalizes anything or everything. It merely points out that Cheney, who, I thinj we can agree, is hardly a liberal also uses that language. Bush is also known for his gross jokes. Republicans are not above this either, was the point.

Thanks for clearing up the obvious.

Everyone, please go straight to the kitchen and wash your mouths out with soap.

It wasn't obvious to Bubba and his supporter so I cleared it up for them. I don't know what your problem is.

I guess you can't accept that the Republican moral paragons are not paragons after all so you feel a put-down is necessary to save face.

Read Bubba's statement at 11:59 on 11/8/07.
I believe it was Cheney who used Bubba's offensive word to Leahy who was only doing his job in the Senate at the time.
Why not challenge this statement rather than the "obvious" rebuttal to it?

" guess you can't accept that the Republican moral paragons are not paragons after all so you feel a put-down is necessary to save face."

Just so you know, I am a hardcore independent. You really shouldn't profile. Sterotypes are so demeaning.

And just so you know more, I am no more a Cheney fan than I am a Leahy fan.

And just so you know even more, it wasn't a putdown. I have maintained on this and other boards expletives are unnecessary.

Peace offering:

Old Vermont story told by Francis Coburn, former Art professor at UVM and NEK native:

Flatlander walked in to the country store and asked for change for his "newly-minted" $18 bill.

Storekeeper responded: Sure.
Would you like three 6s or two 9s?

"Thanks for explaining the obvious" is not a putdown?

Your entire response is a putdown and condescending so I'd be careful about the pot and the kettle.

"Independents" wouldn't be so vehement in their response to a post commenting on one of the parties.

Sorry. I didn't realize a prior party affiliation was required to have an opinion.

I am not a nuclear engineer but I have an opinion on nuclear energy so I guess I will save it.

And I suppose it also follows that Dems shouldn't voice opinions on Repubs and Repubs on Dems since neither are affiliated with the other.

C'mon.

I wasn't commenting on anyone's right to comment; just that the anger shown in the comment wouldn't be likely from an independent voice.
