Drafting horses

It's three months before the first of the presidential primaries/caucuses and fans of Al Gore are hoping to slip him into the race. This from the AP today:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Draftgore.com, which describes itself as a group of
grass-roots Democrats, underwrote a full-page open letter to Al Gore in
Wednesday’s New York Times, imploring the former vice president to enter the
presidential campaign.
The ad, which says 136,000 people have signed Draftgore’s online petition, was published two days before this year’s Nobel Peace Prize is expected to be announced. Gore has been nominated for the prize because of his campaign to bring attention
to global warming.

We are just over a year from a gubernatorial race here in Vermont and Democrats are trying to do some drafting on that one too. Here's where you get to play.

Who would you like to see the Vermont Democratic Party draft to run for governor in 2008:

a. Matt Dunne
b. Bill Sorrell
c. Anthony Pollina
d. Vince Illuzzi
e. Jim Douglas (hey, if you can't beat him ...)
f. Another Democrat - please specify

Other: M. Jane Kitchell

Baruth

Judge Cashman

Senator Crash Doyle

Rich Tarrant has a few bucks left to run another campaign.

Anthony Pollina-

It just makes sense. The Dems do not think it is winable anyway (or their big statewide folks would step up to the plate)! Also he is not in the box that Douglas can put any Dem in right now.

Let him throw himself to the dogs. Besides...which of his positions on issues can the Dems really say they disagree with him on?

Gaye Symington.

Other: Sheila Prue

Pollina

Rusty Dewees. Hey, might as well get a few laughs out of it!

Jim Douglas. He is the only one talking common sense.

Vince Illuzzi

Annie Noonan

Bill Sorrell

Jim Condos

MaTT Dunne or Jim Campbell!

Oh, yeah - go Matt!

pollina - he has name recognition, fire, conviction and isn't afraid. plus, like bernie, he actually gets republicans to vote for him.

Pollina.

anybody but douglas

The answer is c. Anthony Pollina

Matt Dunne all the way!!!!!

e. trade 08 away for a future pick. Let Douglas and Pollina go head to head. Loser gets Midd College presidency.

Anthony Pollina will get votes from Democrats, Independents, Progressives AND traditional rural Republicans who like the work he has done with Vermont Milk Company and on behalf of Vermont farmers. When Pollina ran for Lt. Gov., his biggest vote percentages were in the Northeast Kingdom and the most rural areas of the state.

Pollina all the way because he not only understands the needs of family farmers and ordinary Vermonters but has actually done something to help them!

Dunne or Pollina

Pollina or Dunne

Ellen Hill

Pollina!!!

Pollina,
Anthony clearly understands the needs of every day working vermonters and the value of keeping a strong rural economy.
His leadership with vermont milk company is both words and action

Pollina

Anthony Pollina for sure

Douglas will paint Polina as a tax loving liberal so quick, his head will spin.

Polina won't have an effective response.

Perhaps Polina should run, just so that he can blow his final wad before he fades into the sunset.

Tom Little.

Sheila Prue - since the legislature never had the guts to impeach her (they were too busy worrying about impeaching Bush), she is still eligible to hold public office.

That's a much bigger trough she can go slop around in.

Not sure why you'd want to impeach someone who resigned, plead guilty and was convicted by a court of law.

Sounds like you need to get over it.

"Pollina, Anthony clearly understands the needs of every day working vermonters and the value of keeping a strong rural economy.
His leadership with vermont milk company is both words and action.

Huh? When did Pollina ever work?

Pollina was the founder of Rural Vermont, had previously served as Directory of VPIRG, and is now VP of the Vermont Milk Company.

Annie Noonan - VSEA Director

I think he was Senior Policy Advisor for Bernie.

I hope he runs. He's smart and could do some good for us. Vermonters need help and the current governor has done a lot of complaining about things but hasn't instituted any change that benefits us. Time for him to find a real job.

"Douglas will paint Polina as a tax loving liberal so quick, his head will spin"

That'll be the strategy, but someone who's been in office for as long as Douglas has had better show a record of accomplishment and he surely can't.

Run, Pollina, run!

Hasn't stopped Douglas so far.

Anthony Pollina

Pollina? Good, we need someone to better represent one of the most subsidized interest in the state.

I'd support Pollina.

Matt Dunne really is the one to take Douglas on.

This Independent picks:

f: Jeb Spaulding

Pollina can get votes in Franklin County and the NE Kingdom that a liberal like Dunne will never get.
Pollina could make things very interesting if the Dems are smart give him a clear shot.

The Dems should draft Anthony Pollina (if he'll let them)! He has the respect of Vermonters from all walks of life and superb name recognition. He knows the real Vermont and would be a fantastic governor.

Neither Pollina nor Dunne could ever come close to beating Gov. Douglas. We need a smart, moderate, well-respected woman who does not mince words, has a track-record of good decision-making,has strong roots in Vermont and who is tireless. M. Jane Kitchell. Former Secretary of the Agency of Human Services and current State Senator.
On top of all of that, she is polished, classy and great to work with.

"Pollina was the founder of Rural Vermont, had previously served as Directory of VPIRG, and is now VP of the Vermont Milk Company."

Those aren't jobs.

Pollina for Governor!

Larry Drown

Jeb Spaulding for Gov
Matt Dunne for Lt Gov

Jernigan Pontiac !!

Two of us think that, if both Progressives and Democrats get behind him, Pollina is the only one who has an outside chance of beating Douglas.

We'd work hard for Pollina.

We'd work hard for Pollina.

I voted for Clavelle.
I voted for Parker.
I don't think I can vote for Polina. I don't like the guy -- and frankly, I don't see how he can win.

two fer one

Condos-Noonan

or

Noonan-Condos

Anybody but Douglas

Before you give your vote to Pollina - ask this:

Would you really want Pollina as your Governor?

What qualifications does he have?

I'm a Democrat and I couldn't vote for Pollina - not after he has bashed us all these years.

Pollina's campaign headquarters will be at Capital Gounds in Montpeculiar, where Anthony sits most every day and waxes poetic about his strong work ethic. What a sham this guy is.

And then two afternoons a week he goes to his ridiculous cow-bell radio talk show job where he says, "Hey, let's talk about these social justice issues" and "why can't all the school cafeterias in Vermont buy all their raw food exclusively from Vermont farmers," and the guests and callers all say, "yes, Anthony you're so right!"

And everybody's happy and politically correct.

Almost as dumb and useless and fact-bereft as "True North."

Anyone except pollina.

Condos - Noonan

Pollina for me.

It is time for Democrats and Progressives to get over themselves and work together. If they could stop acting like children, Anthony Pollina would be a terrific candidate

Pollina = Bag o' wind. Had enough of that thank you.

Paul Poirier, now more than ever!

I can't believe no one has mentioned Deb Markowitz!

Isn't Markowitz answering a casting call for the new "Land of the Giants?" She plays one of the little people and they will need no trick photography.

Bill Sorrell: strong experience, demonstrated courage to take on big issues not just ones to make himself popular; sound and balanced judgment

I'll take Pollina

"Bill Sorrell: strong experience, demonstrated courage to take on big issues not just ones to make himself popular; sound and balanced judgment"

That statement is wrong on so many counts! It's hilarious that you can say it with a straight face!

He is about: a) getting his face on the news, b) blowing it in front of the high court, and c) costing the taxpayers over a million dollars in legal fees.

Bill Sorrell has tackled some large issues more successfully than not.
He doesn't just take up space, unlike the current governor.

I'll take Pollina - because I want Douglas to win.

Jeb Spaulding is the only Dem who is fiscally responsible enough to beat Douglas.

c) Pollina. He will legalize marijuana!

Pollina

Bill Sorrell was rated one of the ten worst Attorney Generals in the country.

Bill Sorrell was rated one of the top 5 Attorney Generals in the country.

I'll vote for Pollina.

Sorrell would make an awesome governor. Pollina, sad to say, is a self-serving joke.

I agree about Pollina, and would say the same thing about Sorrell.

What he said.

Pollina!

Anillop!

Pollina would be a great governor. We need him.

Sorell=Polina

Dunne all the way!

"Pollina would be a great governor. We need him."

That's just one of the silliest things I've heard.

If the guy you say we "need" is the halfwit blowhard who pontificates on the "Equal Time" radio show with his unsupported statements about this and that, we need him -- NOT.

Bill Sorrell for Governor - why doesn't have the will to run?

Why doesn't Matt Dunne have the guts to run?

or Jeb Spaulding?

Run, Pollina, Run!

Hey, no running in the halls.

Run, Matt, Run

Pollina

This has got to be the most pathetic thing I ever seen.

Agreed. Pollina is either constantly entering his name on this blog, or having other people do it for him.

I'd vote for Pollina in a heartbeat

You mean people are really stupid enough to read a hundred responses?

Who ever wrote that is also reading them.
