Does it stick?

There on the front page of your morning newspaper today you'll see the new logo that the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce has chosen for Burlington. You can see it here too, as a matter of fact.

As I was walking up my driveway with the paper this morning, it struck me that it looked sort of like Burlington in the midst of a tsunami. The buildings are wobbling on waves. I can assure you that Burlington's buildings remain firmly planted in the ground today.

What do you all make of it?

This logo goes along with the slogan referring to Burlington as "The West Coast of New England."

It doesn't seem easy to come up with a killer logo or slogan, though when a good one comes around it sticks. ("I'm stuck on Band-Aid brand cuz Band Aid's stuck on me" is with us for life, New York's "What a great vacation" may not be with you but I think it's going to be taking up valuable space in my memory banks for some time to come).

With this logo or slogan stick? Does it have to be sung as a tune to have staying power?

Comments:
This logo sucks! I agree with your tsunami analogy. I think Burlington should go with:

Burlington: More patchouli per square foot than anywhere else.

The logo looks like Seattle, not Burlington. (Wooden buildings on the shores of Puget Sound, with mountains in the background, etc.) And the slogan just doesn't make it - "west coast of New England" sounds like Pat Leahy's attempt to get Lake Champlain named the "sixth Great Lake" a few years ago.

Don't like the logo. The buildings look spooky, and the whole logo is in the shape of a teardrop, which is sad.

As for the motto, I would prefer:

The Left Coast of New England

Anyone who bitches about the logo or motto is required to come up with a better one.

It's easy to rip someone else's work appart. It's harder to create something worth remembering.

Burlington: Warmer than we use to be!

It's a logo not a framework for world peace. Get a life.

The logo does look like Seattle!

This even worse than Rutland's logo.

What a shocking waste of money. If the People Republic of Burlington thinks this was a good expense, OK - I just hope state money wasn't spent.

How much of this did Bernie's relatives get?

Need you ask?

I like the slogan Haik Bedrosian came up with:

Burlington: We've got a festival for that.

;)

reminder- this logo is from the Champlain Regional Chamber of Commmerce-- not the City of Burlington. Also, it looks like it belongs on a snowboard.
