Does age matter?

Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain took some tough questions this morning from Concord High School students on the question of his age. (71) According to an Assoicated Press report, here's what one student asked.

“If elected, you’d be older than Ronald Reagan, making you the oldest president. Do you ever worry you might die in office or get Alzheimer’s or some other disease that might affect your judgment?”

Do voters think about age when looking at the field of presidential candidates? Is the public contradictory in what it is looking for in candidates -- someone with plenty of "experience" but not too old?

Or was this just a kids' view of a candidate who with his white hair may have appeared more like a grandfather than presidential material?

I'd take somebody with Alzheimer's over Shrub Jr.

McCain who?

"I'd take somebody with Alzheimer's over Shrub Jr."

Shrub is a disease upon the world.

Well that kid is prolly thinking that there is no way that old fart could possibly represent his ideas and he's prolly right.

McCain's dangerous at any age.

I think his age is an issue. He will be 76 towards the end of his second term. There is a good chance he will be too frail for the job.

Plus, a President with the possibility of a 2nd term will not be a lame duck towards the end of the first term. I say this assuming he won't run again at 76.

Why didn't you report McCain's response?: "Thanks for the question you little jerk. You're drafted."
Not kidding.

Sounds Republican-presidential to me--disdain with a touch of cruelty and abuse of power. Like W. Only older.

Sounds funny to me!

'Cause it's really funny to insult a kid and then threaten to send him to a war zone. Funny and Presidential. ...And senile...And inappropriate.

It's funny, like his "joke" about bombing Iran.

Remember that one?

John McCain's problem isn't his age -- It's his stupidity.

Yeah, it's also really funny to suggest that an older American who's in full possession of both his physical health and his faculties should consider himself unfit to run for President because he's "old." 70 is not too old if you're otherwise healthy. Frankly, that was a dumb question.
