I hope the BFP explores this story in more detail - the press is supposed to be the watchdog of government, and citizens deserve to know what happened in Burlington last night.

The most disturbing aspect is that at 11 p.m, you have to assume that the only possible "volunteers" hanging out at City Hall were campaign and political party types waiting to see whether their candidate(s) won. Visions of someone holding a sign outside of a polling place all day, then going in to count the votes themselves! To say this creates the possibility for mischief would be an understatement.

Stay on this one, BFP. The state's largest city should be able to have the votes in a low-turnout election counted properly without seeking late-night lets-hope-they-are-honest "volunteers".

The BFP's editorial on the election problems in Burlington is spot on.

It would appear the incompetence of the City is only matched by the incompetence of the Sec of State's office. Only mailing 200 ballots to a ward when 2000 were needed? Where is the quality control?

It's amazing that more media outlets aren't pouncing on this story . . .
