A campaign announcement???

What does this mean? The Pollina campaign just sent out a notice for a press conference tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss the status of his 2008 campaign.

He's going hold forth to the media -- and his supporters -- at 12:30 outside city hall in Burlington.

He notes that he's just completed a tour of the state, hitting 29 communities. While he was touring, Democrat Gaye Symington jumped into the gubernatorial race.

Did her decision change anything for him? Did he hear something on the campaign trail that has made him change his mind about running? Democrats were certainly hoping he might change his mind, while Republicans, I'm sure, would prefer he stay in the race.

I guess we will have to wait until tomorrow to find out. It's kind of ho-hum if he's still in, but oh, my gosh if he drops out.

Comments:
Maybe Pollina is announcing that his poll numbers have actually gone up since Symington got in the race.

According to the Progs, Anthony deserves a chance to run against Douglas.

Of course, these are the same Progs who say they will build their party from the ground up!

Must be Anthony doesn't believe in that plank of the platform!

He has never won any election!

They say that the sixth time is a charm.

Gee, Nancy, do you think you'll go or wait to read about it in the Rutland Herald?

This email from the Pollina campaign:

"Two weeks ago a Democrat entered the race for Governor. Since then there has been a lot of chatter about the future of our campaign. People have been wondering how we can win a three way race and if we might change course. Join us as Anthony shares his thoughts about our campaign.

Rally and Press Conference (with free ice cream!)
This Thursday, May 29th
12:00PM in front of City Hall, Burlington
If you can help us set up for this event or serve ice cream please email Julia.

Does not sound like an announcement coming to me.

It sounds like the perfect place for an announcement, little nameless-nitwit fella.

The only question is what he plans to announce.

Always a pleasure.

Dismissed.

Here are two options that I was thinking about:

a) He announces that he is staying in the race and outlines his "public" campaign strategy on how to deal with Symington. He'll employ the same strategy as he did in 2002...attack the Democrat more than the Republican and peel off votes thus allowing Douglas to win the popular vote.

b) He's dropping out and instead running for Lt. Governor. I'll vote for Dubie over Pollina anyday. At least Dubie doesn't have an ego the size of Lake Champlain.

Vermont Milk Company anyone?

Wow, you're a regular Karl Rove.

Let's dump our milk! That'll make everyone stand up and listen. Wrong!

How many times has this guy run for office and lost??

How many times has he held public office?

Zero & Zero.

You need to start from the bottom, Tony the Phony, and work your way up instead of thinking that you deserve the job. It takes work for people to be elected governor and this state is not going to elect an outsider to the governors office.

I mean, at least Bernie was Mayor of Burlington before he was elected to Congress.

Great ideas but no experience or hard answers to back it up.

I hope he drops out.

Why don't the progs all move down the island in the Caribbean that Zucherman's mom owns. That way they can establish their own little paradise and leave the real Vermonters alone.

The few, the bitter, the "real" Vermonters. Get over yourselves. It's not 1950 anymore.

Any office - please let me run for any office!

Actually this is all about Anthony's ego - his very large ego!

And it's about maintaining major party status for the Progs.

I believe they need to have at least a 5% vote for a statewide office!

Well, if nothing else, this announcement at least got the Vermont press to pay some attention to Pollina's campaign, which they've largely ignored or buried in small stories on the back pages. Menawhile, every move Douglas makes, the press fawns all over and it appears on the front pages. I can picture tomorrow's headline, if Pollina is truly pulling out of the governor's race: "Douglas Much Stronger With Departure of Pollina" or "Douglas's Incentive Plan Too Much For Pollina."

And let's not forget that Symington got about two weeks of very positive press coverage that most certainly boosted her positive ratings and her general perception among the general voting public.

Pollina on the other hand had a statewide tour (not many people showed up to them...I know because I attended one for kicks), and when I showed up to two of Symington's events...she had at least 100 people at one and almost 200 people at the other.

Hopefully, Pollina will see the writing on the wall and run for something I may actually vote for him in (The State Senate??)

I'd love to see him in the State Senate. He could most certainly win a seat in Washington County and take out Phil Scott or Bill Doyle.

Why doesn't Pollina throw his hat in every public office open- he might confuse some voters and get lucky.

Someone needs to knock Phil Scott out, that much is true.

Phil Scott only does what Dick Mazza tells him!

And Dick Mazza only does what Jim Douglas, Mike Smith or Neale Lunderville tells him!

This is very true.

I love how everyone is on the same page here.

not everyone

Wow - someone figured out how Dick Mazza and Phil Scott operate!

Yes, he does. Yes, he should drop out.

Unfortunately, you need to stop asking questions - both real and rhetorical - you don't know the answer to and take your ignorant anonymous ass to Adult Basic Ed and complete the Fourth Grade, little fella.

Unless it's your coalition of the clueless cretin contention that Pollina has won every election he's ever entered, the answer to your questions would be always and zero, little fella.

You're welcome.

Of course, being a failed businessman and a clueless cretin who'd never held elective office before didn't stop shrub from becoming elected the Governor of Texas or selected the President of the United States, but, evidently, the rules are different for gops.

Ya forgot brain-dead and bupkis-spewing.

Whoa there, padre, calm down. Getting a little worked up over a statement.

I don't like Pollina and because of his electoral experience...lack thereof, I cannot vote for him. I'll vote for Symington.

Coop, Calm down will you and don't call people names.

Phil Scott and Dick Mazza need to get a room already. The way they slurp all over each other, you'd think the Thunder Road rednecks would run away from them, fearing they might catch them there cooties.

WOW. I'm sure Dick Mazza is thrilled to know he is taking his orders from Douglas, Smith or Lunderville. Are you guys nuts? Do you even know goes on at the State House? Obviously not or you would never accuse Dick Mazza of taking orders from anyone. But, I will say, it did make me chuckle!!

No, not nuts. We just don't have blinders on like you obviously do. That loud popping noise you heard is Mazza pulling his head out of Scott's behind, or vice versa.

And which one of Chris05405's posts am I allegedly "getting a little worked up over" in response to, pal?

That's what I thought.

My first post here was critical of Pollina. In the seven months I've been here I've made it abundantly clear that Pollina is responsible for Brian Dubie. He's the only thing that can keep Doogie the Dim in his current position.

If you're gonna post anonymously, like the majority of the coalition of the clueless, don't blame me when ya get tagged with some friendly fire, pal.

That problem is easily remedied by posting as Chris05405.

Your fate is in your hands.

"not everyone"

Yeah, just the people who can read, write and know their ass from their elbow, nekkie boy.

That said, you and your little coalition of the clueless bubblehead friends are perfectly welcome to continue posting your delusional dreck here.

That's entertainment.

Always a pleasure.

Dismissed.

Ummm...I think the number of people at the Symington "rallies" was just a tad overstated in an earlier post...50 in Burlington, 15 in St. Johnsbury, another 15 in Bennington (Democratic stronghold?!), and last night a paltry 10 in Barre...her campaign is REALLY taking off...

When I was in Brattleboro, Pollina had a good showing...

When I was at the Symington announcement, there was about 60-70 folks there.

It's tough to take out an incumbent so we'll have to see how many people they can grab and transfer them into votes. The Burlington kickoff was pretty intense though.

Go Pollina.
