Backing Obama

Sen. Patrick Leahy and Rep. Peter Welch, Vermont's Democratic members of the congressional delegation, announced Thursday they will back Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois for the party's presidential nomination.

Said Welch:

"I have great admiration for all the Democratic candidates in the race. But
it is Barack Obama who has brought new energy into the political process,
inspiring all Americans to believe that it is possible to restore America's
promise at home and in the world."

Said Leahy:

"We need a president who can reintroduce America to the world and actually
reintroduce America to ourselves. I believe Barack Obama is the best person to
do that."

Sen. Bernie Sanders won't be endorsing a presidential candidate, according to his staff.
This from press secretary Will Wiquist: "The independent Senator from Vermont won't be endorsing any candidate inthe Democratic Party primaries. He will do everything he can to helpthe eventual Democratic nominee move the country in a different direction."

Maybe Edwards should have lobbied a little harder to make sure Kucinich was included in last week's debate. Guess that's not what "real" Democrats do. Why be inclusive of all Democrat candidates?

Edwards, Clinton and Obama are all "real" demcrats. It's a big party. There is room for people who disagree with each other.

On the topic of endorsments, this is a very safe move for Leahy and Welch. Obama is very popular in Vermont. They are just running out in front of the parade on this one.

Just like Douglas's endorsement of McCain was a save move. (Notice that the endorsement from Douglas did not come until McCain started winning in New Hampshire ...)

McCain is popular in Vermont and so that's who Douglas endorsed.

Bernie is a genius. He knows his endorsement means nothing so if he doesn't endorse, he can't be wrong. If he can't be wrong, he is in the perfect position to second guess any eventual winner.

I've never understood "endorsements" anyway. Am I not supposed to decide for myself whom I should vote for? I resent being told by Barbara Streisand, Oprah Winfrey, and even Pat Leahy, whom I should vote for. I will not make my decision based on what somebody else does.

When all is said and done, in the fall of 2009, Leahy will be holding hearings on President Hillary Clinton's first nominee for the Supreme Court, Sen. Barack Obama, whom Hillary will nominate to succeed Obama's fellow Illinoisan, retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.

Kucinich seems to be a "real" Democrat, but his colleagues are shutting out his voice. Politics as usual sucks. Edwards has no balls, neither does Obama and Clinton definately doesn't. I'm not voting for Kucinich but I think his voice belongs in the debates.

Edwards is the pol that has nothing to loose -- no job, no traction in the pols -- so he started telling the truth. It's nice to hear the truth.

But once he has something to loose again ... he'll start playing the political games again ... just like he did when he was in the senate.

Remember, in the Senate, Edwards voted for the Bankruptcy Bill .. which was a terrible bill for middle class Americans ... but rewarded corporations for bad business practices.
