There's no Sleeper candidate

You know you live in a small state with a small pool of possibilities when a guy announces he's retiring as Public Safety commissioner and he immediately becomes a rumored candidate for some political office or other.

Welcome to Kerry Sleeper's world.

Well, move on to the next name, because Sleeper tells me unequivocally that he's not going into politics. "No, I am not running for any political office."

Not only that. If you were wondering, as some have, whose camp he'd be in - he says neither, that he's not now nor has he at any time been affiliated with a political party. "I am a fiercely independent Vermonter."

What Sleeper is looking at once he leaves state government at the end of the year is possibly working in D.C. as a consultant on the National Information Sharing Strategy - the Justice Department's efforts to provide a means of various law enforcement agencies sharing info that might prevent terrorist attacks and the like.

Anyway, check his name off the list of possible candidates for whatever.

It's a credit to Sleeper that people zoomed in on him as a possible political candidate, but it's also true that people have a tendency to zoom in pretty readily in their thirst to fuel political speculation. It's also a credit to Sleeper that his secretary at Public Safety, when I told her I was calling about "his future," suggested that I try to get him to stay on as commissioner. He wasn't biting on that either.

Is the rumor true that this position is being offered to Randy Brock? Anybody know?

Rumors have both Randy Brock and Martha Rainville in the mix.

This would fit nicely with Jim Douglas' modus operandi of providing jobs to election-losing GOP candidates.

Martha is not available but Randy is.

He'd have to move back to Vermont ... on second thought ... he didn't move back to Vermont when he was collecting a state paycheck as Auditor ...

Brock couldn't even beat Salmon, a relative newcomer who seems a little flakey around the edges. It is true that Douglas keeps plucking from the same pool of castoffs though. His new ideas for candidates are like his new ideas for Vermont--there aren't any.

Randy Brock is qualified for this
position.

Randy Brock lives in Florida.

We are his neighbors in Naples - nice guy.

Naples eh? Ooo La La. Lifestyles of the rich and not so famous.

"Naples eh? Ooo La La. Lifestyles of the rich and not so famous."

You sound a little bitter.

With a little effort that could be you. It's called the American Dream.

Absolutely!!

Thanks Mr. Motivator. You are right. Randy really is living the American Dream. Live in exclusive Naples, maybe next to Rich Tarrant. If I tire of Florida, I can head up to my hobby home in Vermont and run for office, all the time fooling gullible Vermonters into thinking I actually live in-state year round. As the song says "I like dreaming"

Isn't Naples where that champion of the downtrodden, Bernie Sanders was partying last year? I guess even communists can live it up as long as the taxpayer is footing the bill.

I hear Secretary of Administration Mike Smith has landed the lead role in a new spinoff of "Little People, Big World" They are calling it "Little Dictator, Small State"

Mike Smith is an Oompa Loompa.

"This would fit nicely with Jim Douglas' modus operandi of providing jobs to election-losing GOP candidates."

Um, you mean like Dean putting AG Amestoy into the Supreme Court Chief position, so that he could then install his pal Sorrell into the vacant AG post, a post the Sorrell would never have gotten elected to on his own? Oh, and did I forget to mention that Dean pulled this maneuver only after his pal Sorrell was twice rejected by the nominating committee for the Supreme Court job, which infuriated Dean?

You mean like Dean getting his pal David Wolk installed as Prez of Castleton State College after Wolk lost the election to become Lt. Gov. in the mid-1990's?

You mean like that?

"Isn't Naples where that champion of the downtrodden, Bernie Sanders was partying last year?"

Now that he is SENATOR Bernie, forget these local VT wannabes and Naples, he can head over to West Palm Beach to party with Kennedy's...

So who is going to replace Sleeper?

Jim Barnett will replace Sleeper.

You have GOT to be kidding!!!!!!!!!

No way - what about Randy Brock?

Randy Brock won't take it. He's gearing up for the election for Auditor.

Yup, he's gettting his campaign ready from florida!

"he's gettting his campaign ready from florida"

Hoping he will invite you to a strategy meeting?

And what would that be like.......

Looking at the last election one
could only imagine.

I also think that if the Governor doesn't offer this to Randy Brock it says alot about what he thinks he is worth politically.

Randy Brock, the Floridian?

Anyone hear who did get the job?

No, who?

?????????
