Other things on his mind

Republican House Leader Steve Adams of Hartland really didn't want to be in Montpelier Wednesday. It's not that he wanted to duck the partisan showdown over the energy and campaign finance bills. He had his crowd in line and they delivered as asked. Neither override succeeded, thanks to House Republicans.

Still Adams was thinking and worrying about his camp on Seymour Lake in the Northeast Kingdom as the stormy weather unleashed another day of rain and wind. Tuesday evening, a severe cell of weather struck the Seymour Lake area, blowing out three windows in Adams' camp, knocking down every tree on the lot and bombarding his truck with golf-ball size hail.

Because of all the fallen trees, Adams said he got up at 4 a.m. on Wednesday. "I had to cut my way out," he said. "I told my wife I've got to be in Montpelier."

If anyone asks Adams how he spent his summer vacation, expect to hear that he sawed a lot of wood.

Comments:
Unbelievable. This guy gets up at 4AM in the morning and literally chainsaws his way to Montpelier. All 49 Republicans were there. All voted together. That's leadership.

Three Democrats had more important things to do, and can't be bothered to make it. Gaye Symington and John Campbell are captured on TV yelling and screaming at the Governors staff.

What a pathetic display of leadership.

Well, its too bad about Adam's camp, but Adams is no flagship legislator. Go find some of the bill's he's authored. There is nothing there...no substance. He's also the main creator of Revolt and Repeal ... and there was and is nothing there....

As for

"All 49 Republicans were there. All voted together. That's leadership."

What? Not one of the 49 can think for themselves?

I guess you'll be voting for Mr. Individual Leader, Rep. Allard.

I'll vote for anyone who supports Revolt and Repeal. Shumlin co-architected Act 60 and we all wonder why our property taxes are out of control now. Repeal Act 60 TODAY!!!!

Adams is example of an old time Vermonter. He doesn't let anything get in his way to get the job done. As far as authoring a bill means anything, it doesn't. I can author and submit hundreds of bill but if they don't do anything, it means nothing. It is naive people who keep track of "bill author"s, the rest keep track of the actions and words of those who act. I am not directing this at any party, I find those who can do the job in both party's and know what needs to be done.

BRAVO!!

Just look at some of the stupid bills that have been drafted this year.

Two Democratic Reps introduced a bill to tax bicycles! And I thought we were trying to encourage carbon free transportation!?!?

If Steve Adams was a true and self respecting Republican, he would have taken that storm as a SIGN FROM GOD !!!!!

Obviously, GOD was trying to keep him from Montpelier.

This guy could learn a thing or three from his Republican bothers.

Nice try, but you can't tar the VT GOP as a bunch of bible thumpers. That might be the case in Texas, but not hear in VT. The VT GOP only represents two religions - REASON and LOGIC.

Are you saying that Christianity defies reason and logic?

Tell it to Nancy Sheltra, Paul Beaudry and all of your anti-gay, anti-choice friends.

The Vermont GOP is so logical and reasonable that they followed Dubbya over the cliff of the Iraq War.

They support the Idiot-In-Chief and his evil sidekick Dick Cheney all the way.

Yep. A very reasonable bunch.

"What? Not one of the 49 can think for themselves? "

I can't speak for the reasons why all 49 House Repubs voted against the override, since I am not a member of their Party and do not know them.

But 12 Democrats DID think for themselves. They did not succumb to the politically-correct Vermont ultra-Leftist "groupthink" that any tax on a any "big corporation" is a good thing, for any reason. They did not succumb to the same kind of blind "stick-together-at-all-costs" partisanship that ruined this country when it was practiced by the Republicans in DC for the past 6 years. No, they thought for themselves and said "no" to Symington and Shunlin. They exercised their own judgment and voted their conscience, not the party line.

And I applaud them.

What the hell do the VT GOP have to do with the Iraq War?

VT, as in VERMONT, V - E - R - M - O - N - T. Not Washington. Not New York, Boston, or wherever else you came from.

Vermont is part of the USA.

The Vermont GOP is part of the American GOP.

The Vermont GOP supports Bush, Cheney, Rice, Gonzalez ...

Every week, Rob Roeper sends out emails and press releases in support of this corrupt bunch.

Not long ago I got an email from the Vermont GOP asking if I'd volunteer to work a phonebank in support of a NEW JERSEY politician.

The email said that the "GOP is a big FAMILY" and Vermont Repubs need to help out Repubs in other states ...

Jim Douglas himself has gotten nearly a million dollars from the RNC to run his poliitical campaigns.

Most of the money spent on bahalf of Martha Rainville came directly from Washington.

If you think that the Vermont GOP is an island isolated from the corruption of the National Party, you are simply mistaken.

Saw the clips of Little Jimmy surveying the terrible flooding in Barre yesterday. On a light note, it was the only time when Little Jimmy's flood pants were warranted. Looked like his khaki's were chest waders. What a dork!

Adams is just another do-nothing.

Sitting on the sidelines shouting obsentities won't fix Vermont's problems.

Wasting an entire legislative session won't "fix" things either.

The wind lobby, VPIRG, VNRC, etc., hopefully, have learned a couple of lessons out of this whole fiasco. Vermonters, in general, like to solve their own problems locally and as a community, not with special interest groups cramming something down their throats. Most people like to make up their own minds about how save themselves money. Does anyone really think that the wind industry is out to help us save the planet? What a snow job.

The wind lobby?

The biggest source of wind in Montpelier is Governor Veto himself.

Yea ... that dirty wind lobby is out to get us.

We need to rely more on oil and coal for our energy.

VPIRG has lost its soul. Lobbyists have a bad name. VPIRG is nothing but a corrupt fund-raising and lobbying organization that sleeps with Shumlin and Symington.

Democrats are so mad at themselves all they can do is shout at Douglas. Campbell should never have become Shumlins lap dog!

Correct. The Senate Dems should not have intentionally case their lot with the devil last November last year and elected Shumlin -- who had been out of the Senate 4 years -- as their Pro Tem. Shumlin waltzes in and steps on Campbell. He must have made a lot of private promises to other Senators (and how many has he kept, I wonder). I think the Dems foolishly thought that Shumlin would be a more forceful Democratic voice against the Governor than Campbell. But the only thing Shumlin did was run amok with his ego, and make bad decisions, and change his mind every day, and lash out at the Governor, and throw Madam Speaker under the bus, and generally embarass himself. The other Senators should have done what they undoubtedly knew was right in their hearts and rejected Shumlin and gone with Campbell as the Pro Tem last year. They only have themselves to blame for the mess that Shumlin has given them.

Here, here!!!

They got what they deserved.

Shumlin should go impeach himself.

He is a small part of the problem besides he is too easy a target - thats no fun!

Poster #2 hasn't got a clue as to Adams value....he was honored with Audubon Vermont's Art Gibb Legislative Award for environmental work...only the 2nd Republican to be so honored (along with Art Gibb) other winners include Scudder Parker, Jim Jeffords, Pat Leahy, Madeline Kunin, etc. VNRC honored him for his environmental work on stormwater and groundwater issues (against the wishes of Speaker Walt Freed). One doesn't need to "author" legislation to be effective. Adams is a leader by example that others want to follow. I know that he never told the other Republicans how to vote because I am one of them. Neither he or Patti Komline lead like Nease or Partridge where people are not free to vote as their constituency would like them to. Adams is a real leader.

Hey, don't forget Revolt and Repeal.

All Adam's did there was bitch and moan about taxes to rile the ranks without offering a single idea for a solution..yeah, not a single idea.

That's leadership alright.

Hey, where is Adams working with the gov on any of the gov's initiatives? He's supposed to be the minority leader, but where is the leadership?

Fact is that he was put over on the Natural resources committee because he's a wash and Democrats view him as completely harmless. In other words, he's no leader.
