Lining up for Clinton

A passel of Democratic Vermont state legislators (and one independent) have endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, according to Clinton's campaign office. Not a plethora of them, but a few. Will it put Clinton's campaign over the edge? Well, no, but everybody's got to scrap for what they can get.

Here's the list:

Sen. Hinda Miller of Chittenden County
Sen. Sara Kittell of Franklin County
Rep. Donna Sweaney of Windsor
Rep. Johannah Donovan of Burlington
Rep. Kathleen C. Keenan of St. Albans
Rep. Bill Aswad of Burlington
Rep. Steve Howard of Rutland
Rep. Albert "Sonny" Audette of South Burlington
Rep. Daryl Pillsbury, the lone independent on the list, from Brattleboro

Here are the canned quotes Clinton's people issued from a couple of them:

“Senator Clinton’s unmatched experience makes her the most qualified candidate to be our next President,” said Sen. Hinda Miller. “People throughout the county, including those right here in Vermont, will benefit from the Senator’s commitment to government reform, repairing our health-care system, and providing affordable quality education."

“Hillary Clinton has a unique understanding of the issues facing our nation,” said Rep. Steve Howard. “She is ready to lead the country from the moment she takes office.”

As the FEC listings show from Sam's previous posting, none of these people had given Clinton money. But they've lent her their names.

Comments:
Now if we could just "can" a few of those legislators, we might be able to move Vermont forward!

Considering her performance in last year's mayoral election, Hinda Miller's endorsement could hurt more than it helps.

Obama for President!

Let's examine this quote:

“Hillary Clinton has a unique understanding of the issues facing our nation.”

This is what the dictionary has to say about the word "unique":

limited to a single outcome or result; without alternative possibilities.

Is that a leader we want?

“Hillary Clinton has a unique understanding of the issues facing our nation,”

That is a perfect example of deplorable political sound-bite speech. It means nothing.

Anybody is better than the bozo that is in office now!!

You must mean Stevie Howard

Hillary Clinton is a carpetbagger and a wanna be. We should vote for someone with passion and understanding - like Bill Richardson.

"They've lent her their name." They have that right as well as the right to contribute if they choose.

A non-Hilary supporter.

Yep, and Terri has the right to make her observation.

I know blogs are for opinions but a little objectivity would be nice. It's a civil thing to do and much lacking elsewhere in the BFP.

Addenda to above. Necessary for example to see a deeper political meaning to the Simpson humor expressed by various people? Why not just accept it as a little fun. Strikes the observer as a bit of hobby horse riding.

My opinion: I've never really understood the procedure whereby an office-seeker lines up public support from other office-holders. If Vermont voters decide to vote for Hillary for President because Hinda Miller is "on board," then shame on them. Do your homework and make up your own damn mind. I resent having it suggested to me that I should support so-and-so because a celebrity does.

I agree and I don't base my decisions on that either. Nonetheless it is their right to publicize their support just as it is yours or mine to do the same if we choose to do so.
I personally prefer to keep my choices private.

Let's move on from Hillary Clinton
we need fresh passionate ideas!

If she were not Bubba's wife she would not be considered a viable candidate. Pee Wee Herman is more qualified than she is.

"If she were not Bubba's wife she would not be considered a viable candidate."

Maybe so. Or maybe not. She's pretty smart. Even if she were just another U.S. Senator and not the wife of a former President, she might still be running.

"Pee Wee Herman is more qualified than she is."

This is plainly false. Her White House and Senate experience make her very qualified.

I'm not supporting her at this point. Just rebutting your questionable statements.

If they want a republican to win they will give her the nomination.

From today's Free Press about who might take on Douglas in 2008:

"The name won’t be Shumlin, he said. His company, Putney Student Travel, recently landed a contract with National Geographic to run educational tours that will keep him busy. He also said, “I don’t have the ambition I used to.”"

1. Putney Sudent Travel just got a contract? Then let's tax the sh** out of it.

2. "I don't have the ambition I used to." Putney Pete's afraid to take on Douglas and lose.

Do not underestimate the Clinton political machine.

Bush, Bush, Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush... enough already. I want a different soap opera. She might be good but I can't take the Hillary/Bill drama.

Actually, were it not for Slick Willie, I would probably support Hilary. Unless she gets a quick divorce, i'll vote for richardson.

Stevie Howard is useless as a legislator...this year while serving on the Ways and Means Committee he spent his time writing letters to encourage support for his failed bid for Mayor of RTutland...what a waste of taxpayer dollars...he should be impeached for his crimes and misdemeanors
