On top of old Elmore

So the governor went to Elmore Lake State Park on Tuesday, austensibly to sign the telecommunications bill in a place where there is not now but will with the help of this bill be cell phone and high-speed Internet access.

Except he doesn't have the bill yet, so it turned into a sort of faux signing. Much as I love Elmore Lake State Park on a sunny, warm day, I am glad I didn't make the trip.

House Speaker Gaye Symington didn't want anyone accusing her of holding that bill back on purpose. She said she didn't know the governor's office didn't have it. All they had to do was call.

The governor's office also doesn't have the energy bill yet - the one he says he's going to veto. Gubernatorial spokesman Jason Gibbs speculated that legislative leaders were holding that one back until the governor is in China next month. He'll be gone just enough days that they might get away with forcing either the lieutenant governor to act on it, or if he were also out of state, the speaker.

Intriguing idea, but pure speculation, Symington said. She's planning to sign that one herself Thursday, in a 5:45 a.m. pass-through Montpelier. Douglas will have his chance at it after that, a full two weeks before he goes to China.

You aren't really surprised Symington can't move something along = are you!

Madam Symington needs to spend more time performing her job as Speaker than traveling around the state campaigning and trying to convince Vermonters to support the trash that she and Shummy have forced down our throats this session. Not delivering bills to the Gov on time is pure politics and don't give us this bull about not knowing that she still holds the bills. She is such a sorry excuse.

Today we read of her insulting the House by saying she doesn't support the energy bill as passed by the House with overwhelming support. I wonder just what Chairman Robert Dostis thinks of her comments?

What the hell is Gov. Doesless going to China for? Does he want to see how low a region can lower environmental standards and still have its citizens accept them? Bring that mentality back to Vermont maybe?

P.S. Note to Jason Gibbs. If you're out running, cover up those pasty white legs. And tell Smith to keep running. He needs it.

Ostensibly o-s-t-e-n-s-i-b-l-y.
Ostensibly

"What the hell is Gov. Doesless going to China for?"

He's checking up with IBM.

Hey dude - its called economic development. You know, fostering economic cooperation, promoting Vermont, bringing in the dough.

I know... its a hard concept to understand when you're too stoned to get out and cash your welfare check and too lazy to get out of bed before 9 in the morning to attend an impeachment rally.

You have to be an idiot to ever reference anything appearing in Seven Days relating to serious economics! They still grovel at the feet of Bernie Sanders and Hugo Chavez. What a joke!

Gaye Symington is a sorry excuse for
leadership!

Yes, development in China and elsewhere is taking jobs away from the U.S, and Europe, but trade barriers are not the answer. They gave us the Great Depression. And what right do we have to say to a Chinese peasant who's been earning the equivalent of $5/month: "No, you can't have that $1/day job in a factory, even though it will vastly increase your personal standard of living, because it will take a job away from someone in the West, which has been enjoying a ridiculously and unfairly high standard of living, and destroying the planet, for centuries now."

Yeah, seems fair. I can see how we'll convince them not to take the job with that reasoning.

Wow... Are you all not interested in how the process works or is it just so you can blame Symington?

The Governor has 5 days once he receives a bill to sign it into law, veto it, or let it become law without his signature.

His office very often tells the Speaker or Pro Tem to hold onto bills until he is ready or it meets with his ribbon-cutting schedule - especially at the end of the session when numerous bills are passed at eessentially the same time.

Let's get a new Speaker of the House and get something done.

Yes, lets!

That is not going to happen.
