Trying to hold it together

The House speaker has gotten considerable grief for not being able to hold together every last member of her 93-person caucus, plus the 6 Progs and 2 Indies. Imagine the grief when the Burlington City Council Democrats couldn't hold together their tiny little caucus of six for the election of a council president last night.

Bill Keogh, a Democrat who doubles as a member of the city council and the state House, made that point to his Statehouse colleagues this afternoon.

Kurt Wright, who like Keogh plays double duty on the council and in the House, was warned this morning not to get too used to the title of Mr. President.

Tis a bit odd, Keogh and other Democrats acknowledged, that they allowed a Republican to sneak through as council president in the land of the liberals. Ironic, too, that the vacancy for council president came after Democrat Ian Carleton resigned because he found the council work to be too much on top of his lawyer work, his family life and his role as the state's Democratic Party chairman.

Comments:
Terri - I'm pretty sure the dems only hold 5 seats on the council. what a brave bunch they are!

Maybe, just maybe Kurt Wright was
the right choice!

What will Burlington do with someone like Wright? Does this mean the immenant overthrow of the communist peoples republic and the end of the cult of personality? Will Bernie's statue be toppled? Will common sense return to Burlington? Stay tuned.

You must be kidding.

What a surprise there'd be opposition to the Democratic Party in Burlington. Did anyone ask them if they give a damn about their constituents?

Thanks, Ian! Thanks for giving up on your elected job as City Councilor to hold onto your insider role as Chair of the Democratic Party in VT. Thanks for helping elect a Republican as Council President. Thanks for nothing.

Vermont will get Shumlin for Governor.

or Dunne.

Go Dunne.

If anyone had any doubts about the sanity of anyone that would support Dunne or (gag) Shumlin just look at the idiot that posts the previous "Go Dunne"-type comments.

We'd be idiots to elect Matt Dunne...all he cares about is getting his pretty face on TV

"Vermont will get Shumlin for Governor."

Why, did Douglas decide not to run next time?
