On the war front

Longtime Rep. Francis Brooks takes charge of the Statehouse tomorrow, in his new role as sergeant-at-arms. Friday, the second day of his new job, war critic Cindy Sheehan comes to visit, which is to say Brooks gets a full 24 hours to get comfortable on the job before managing a crowd.

Brooks, an outwardly calm and inwardly spiritual man, is looking to the heavans. A snowstorm is possible Friday, and it would suit him fine if it turned into a dandy. Of course, it's hard to imagine Brooks having a hard time keeping the peace. He did, after all, teach high school for many years.

Speaking of Sheehan's visit, Sen. Vince Illuzzi, whose committee is hosting her noontime Friday visit, was having trouble finding someone to offer the counterpoint to her points against the war. He said Tuesday afternoon, though, that the American Legion was planning to do it.

Why doesn't Vince Illuzzi ask Rob Roper to speak in favor of the Bush policy in Iraq? Shouldn't the state chair of the Republican Party be prepared to speak up for his president? If Roper is unwilling or unavailable, how about Martha Rainville?

How about Jim Douglas? He prmoted Bush twice to all of Vermont. I would think the 2004 endorsement was an endorsement of the war, eh? Make this dweeb sweat for freakin' once about his choices.

Isn't South Carolina one of those southern red states y'all ship your grandparents to because the taxes and cost of living are so low? By the way, Tupelo, Ms just landed a huge Toyota plant that probably equals the gross national product of Vermont. Oh well, I guess the few native Vermonters left will just have to be content mowing lawns and shoveling snow for all those flatlander liberals whose greatest accomplishment in life is shutting down a snowmobile trail or a WalMart!

Bubba: Like most conservative hacks, you speak poorly, meaning you make no freakin' sense. Why wasn't your Governor lobbying for that Toyota plant. He had a chance this week when he slept over at GW's house. Wonder if he patted GW on the back and told him what a great president and leader he's been. Bubba loves pre-Kunin Vermont (for all of you flatlander "anonymous" scribblers, Madeleine Kunin was the worst Governor in Vermont history, even worse than Howie Dean.) About the time carpetbagger Kunin took over, so do the rest of the far-left idiots like Ralph Wright, Racine,etc. They were able to pack the Vermont Supreme Court, pass Acts60/68, force civil unions on the natives, and in general turn the state into a left-wing fairyland! Judging by most of the "anonymous" blogs I guess they succeeded!

It was only the far right religious wignuts (yeah, Vermont has a few) that even cared about civil unions. These were the only people who felt that civil unions were being forced upon them. The fact is that Vermonters really don't give a rats ass what other folks do.

While I would fall into the don't give a shit about civil unions category, this statement is wrong. Most of the opposition to civil unions came from that part of the state (Northeast Kingdom) which has been least-affected by the influx of those from other states. I have no idea with other people coming to live here and expressing their opinions. I just like the truth.

Occasionally a courageous liberal has guts enough to stand up to the far-left owners of the democrat party, but it is few and far between. Look what happened to Joe Lieberman when he supported American troops fighting terrorism! Because the ACLU and other far-left wackos dominate the leadership of the democrat party, nothing is ever done to child molesters, as recently evidenced in Vermont. Only when someone like Bill O'Reilly makes it an issue does anything happen, and then only for fear of a tourism backlash throughout the country.
