Happy talk

Thoughts from the Senate campaign trail on primary night...

Republican Richard Tarrant was a happy guy Tuesday night. Surrounded by cheering supporters he wore a big grin as he made his way to the microphones at his Colchester headquarters, introducing his youngest grandchild, one-year-old Nina Tarrant, to one and all.

Once he made it to the podium Tarrant once again made reference to his granddaughter. Then came this attempt at humor from the happy candidate. Introducing his wife, Deb, he grinned and said that sometimes she "acts like my oldest granddaughter." No explanation of what he meant by the remark.

Over at Bernie Sanders' headquarters, independent, eight-term Congressman Sanders was enjoying his first-ever victory as a Democratic candidate, even though he was quick to say he'll politely turn down the party's nomination today and run again as an independent.

Once upon a time, when Sanders was mayor of Burlington and city Democrats detested everything about him, the idea of such a friendly relationship between the Ds and Bernie would have seemed impossible.

Sanders' independent streak runs deep, though, even if he has voted with the Democratic caucus
almost all the time. "I am the longest serving independent in Congress in American history," he insisted on reminding reporters. Okay, got it.

Comments:
Tarrant's comments about his wife are kind of gross.

Yeah, saying your wife acts young sometimes is really shocking. Next thing you know he'll say she's pretty, won't that be a scandal.

"My wife reminds me of my grand daughter." -- Ick.

Kind of fits Tarrants image of a slimeball

'"My wife reminds me of my grand daughter."' -- Probably shouldn't use quotation marks if you're not going to quote things.

The real quote was: '"acts like my oldest grandaughter."' Which could mean any number of things - maybe she looks up to him, maybe he spoils her (as, I'd assume, any self-made man would want to do for his wife OR his grandchildren)... saying his wife sometimes acts like an old grand daughter does not mean he thinks of her as one.

Taking things so wildly out of context kind of fits Sanders' campaign's blog's MO.

Nah, thats just plain weird.

Tarrant's second wife is a trophy wife who is 18 years younger than him. Tarrant was not thinking clearly when he tried to make a joke about how comparatively young she is.

There are no pictures of Tarrants wife on his web-ste. Tarrant is trying to hide the fact that she is so much younger than him.

I guess he was hiding her by pointing her out during his acceptance speech.

In the excitement of the moment, Tarrant screwed up. When he introduced his wife, he called attention to her youth.
Remember, Tarrant is 64 years old. He has a trophy wife, Deborah, who appears to be in her early forties. She is generally hidden in this campaign. There are no pictures of her on his web page.

"Tarrant screwed up."

Or he never intended to "hide" her in the first place. Maybe you can point out the shot of Bernie's wife on his site, and then tell us why we should care?

Hey, has anyone noticed how my wife looks like my grand daughter?

That's so hot.

Bernie's wife is too busy cashing check's as a campaign "consultant."
