Dems back a Peter

The state Democratic Committee met Saturday in Randolph and voted to endorse a Peter for election in the fall. It was Welch for Congress, not Galbraith for governor.

Peter Welch, seeking his second term in Congress, won unanimous approval (with one abstention) of the committee to endorse his candidacy. Really the only question in that race is whether he'll also win the de facto endorsement of the Vermont Republican Party. No candidate in sight for that one.

Speaking of sighting possible candidates, Peter Galbraith did speak to state committee members after their meeting Saturday. About half the committee members stayed to chat with Galbraith, party Executive Director Jill Krowinski said. "He did not announce," she said.

Galbraith is making the tour of county Democratic committees in the coming days, she said.

Comments:
Rob Roeper's VTGOP is so sad and weak that they can't find someone to run against Welch.

Pitiful.

Yes, particularly since Welch is so weak.

The headline on this entry is a little telling, don't y'all think?

If Welch was "weak" than the GOP would be able to find someone to run against him.

Every Vermont Republican realizes that Welch can't be beat ... so they aren't even going to try.

your comment
Martha Rainville spent half her campaign in uniform politicking on the Taxpayer dime and couldn't give Welch a run for an open seat.

Gops can whine - it's not like they can do anything else - all they want about 2006 being a bad year for gops but 2008 is shaping up even worse.

The fact that she's not running should tell ya all ya need to know about the state of gops and gopdumb in Vermont and the Country.

She lost once. If she's gonna have any future in politics, she can't be gop road kill this fall.

She's got a better shot at Lite Gov or Gov down a couple of years from now.

If the gops are gonna be a viable party in Vermont, they're gonna have to cut the clueless mcclaughrys, greg parkes and nancy sheltras of the world loose.

Of course, if they were to hang on to bubble boy and the rest of the timothy mcveigh wing of the party, like the rest of Vermont, I'd consider it a personal favor.

If Welch has any testicular fortitude, he will vote against the stimulus plan when it comes up for a vote in the House tomorrow.

Here's what John Edwards had to say about the stimulus plan:

Edwards said that Bush's plan to stimulate the nation's economy, a case for which the president is expected to argue in tonight's speech, does not do enough to help those who need it the most.

"Even he and his people admit it's gonna take months for this stimulus to actually kick in," said Edwards before a buoyant crowd of over 400 people. "The truth of the matter is, it is so important that between now and January of 2009 that we stand up to this president, that we stand up for what's right, that we don't let him continue to make it so hard for the middle class."

Earlier in Chattanooga, Edwards said, "I think a lot of us know what the state of the union is."

"And the president will walk into the Congress, to the United States House of Representatives, and he'll give a speech about his stimulus plan to try to stimulate the economy.

"And you know what'll happen is he'll go in there and the Congress - who kinda quit listening to him a while back - but they'll all stand up, cheer, clap. You know, the truth is that Washington is out of touch with what's happening here in the real world."

If Welch won't stand up to Bush on Iraq, at least he should stand up to Bush on the economy.

If you want to stimulate the economy cut taxes on corporations and everyone that PAYS taxes. If you're trolling for votes, give welfare checks to those that don't pay taxes. That's the Bernie Sanders way.

Bubba,
Bush has done exactly what you say to do.
It didn't work.

Bubble boy, once again, you demonstrate that there's no topic under the Sun that you're not totally ignorant of.

That's what Bush and the gop Congress did for the first six years of this reign of error. We're seein' the results of that today.

As for Health Care, we'd be better off if Hillary had gotten her way 15 years ago than we are now as insurance companies rip off the consumers as prices escalate well above the rate of inflation and Insurance Company hacks ration your health care and decide if you live or die.

Harry Truman was all set to introduce Universal Health Care in '48 until scum bag Strom Thurmond flipped out when Truman desegregated the Army and he had to back-burner it.

Strom, you'll recall, when he wasn't raping the domestic staff, was a rabid racist who ran as a Dixiecrat before becoming a gop as all Dixiecrats did sooner or later making the gop the ignorant, racist, toxic-waste dump of bad ideas, bigotry and incompetence it is today.

Bubbles, you, the little fella and the rest of the timothy mcveigh wing of the republican party are free to go cheney yourselves to your heart's content. You won't be missed.

Dismissed.

Umm ... isn't that the same problem that Carleton's Democratic Party is facing in the Governor's race? According to this post, they still don't have a declared candidate for governor.

"About half the committee members stayed to chat with Galbraith, party Executive Director Jill Krowinski said. 'He did not announce,' she said."

Election politics, especially in a state like Vermont that has two-year terms and a propensity to keep incumbents in office, is a lot like playing Texas Hold 'Em. Half the game is having the patience and savvy to know when the proper time has come to risk everything.

I don't blame any politician, of any party, for being smart enough to play the game well.

^^ If you've been paying attention, you'd know that the Dems will have at least one candidate for Governor.

On the other hand, the Repubs don't have a single person to run for congress.

That speaks to how poorly Roeper has run the state party.

Me either, but that's not what's going on here.

While I'm dubious that you'll be willing or able to grasp the facts, nevertheless, I'll endeavor to convey them to ya anyhow.

The Dems don't have an announced candidate for Governor at this time. I believe that to be the case with Lite Governor as well.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

That said, do you really believe that the Dems will not field a Candidate for those offices?

Moreover, outside of those two offices, what would possibly lead you to believe that current conditions leave both parties on an equal footing at this time?

Gops are as highly-regarded in Vermont as Hezbollah is in Israel.

They're not gonna nab the PM Spot or control the Knesset.

Again, given those facts, do you seriously think the gops will gain control of the Vermont Senate this November? How about the Vermont House?

If so, feel free to demonstrate the factual basis for such an assessment.

Do you seriously believe that a gop has a chance to knock off Welch when Martha Rainville couldn't do it in 2006 despite the fact that she was running in Uniform on the Tax Payer Dime?

She, of course, is no longer in uniform or in a position to raise her profile. To the best of my knowledge, she's still with FEMA. What has FEMA done to regain it's credibility in the wake of the Katrina Disaster?

That's what I thought.

There was yet another FEMA scandal on the news tonight concerning the Formaldehyde trailers folks are still in some 2.5 years later. Evidently, the Administration tried to get the CDC to fudge the figures and cover for them. Unfortunately for the bushleaguers, they said no.

Clearly, this illegitimate trash administration and the gops can't get through a day without lying, obstructing justice, perjuring themselves, tampering with witnesses, destroying evidence and just plain playing fast and loose with the truth.

So, given those facts, what would lead you to believe that Rainville or anyone else would be in a stronger position this November than they were two years before?

That's what I thought.

Gops are worse off now than they were two years ago. They've been exposed as the corrupt, illegitimate, incompetent trash they are in a State that wasn't too crazy about them two years ago.

Bush was trounced both times he ran here. He's less popular today. Douglas and Dubie or whomever runs for Lite Gov as a gop may survive and hold their offices, but it will be in spite of their party, not because of it.

Sorry Mr. Coop, but please point out to me where I said I believe the Dems will not field a candidate for Governor or Lt. Governor.

I don't think you'll be able to.

You've been most insistent on not allowing people to put words in your mouth. Please extend me the same courtesy.

I merely pointed out that the Democrats are in the same position in the Governor's race as the Republicans are in the race for Congress. Niether has a declared candidate.

First, I never commented on whether Republicans would regain control of the House or Senate in November, so that line of argument is simply a non-sequitur.

And while we're on the matter of demonstrating a factual basis for an assessment, I'm dubious that Republicans, one of the three major political parties, would poll as low among Vermonters as Hezbollah, a known terrorist organization, would poll among Israelis.

If you have polling data that proves your assertion please feel free to provide it. But a Republican has won the two highest elected state offices in the last three elections.

I don't dispute Bush's unpopularity in Vermont, but as I've said before, I don't think Vermonters hold Douglas or even Dubie responsible for what Bush does. The president and the Iraq war were extremely unpopular in 2006; Welch benefitted from this but apparently Parker and Dunne did not.

That doesn't mean Douglas and Dubie are invincible, but I think the fact that no Democrat is willing to risk his or her currently held statewide office to challenge them nor is the Speaker or President Pro Tem, speaks volumes to how difficult unseating them is perceived to be, at least in the eyes of those with the best chance to do so.

"so that line of argument is simply a non-sequitur."

That is one of his specialties.

The other one, of course, is calling people names.

jw is correct that the Republicans face a lot of problems in Vermont. However, the sad part is that as the state sinks deeper and deeper into the slime bucket of liberalism, not enough REAL Vermonters seem to care, perhaps believing that the rest of the country is in the same situation. At least for now, the flatlanders like jw and his fellow scum seem to be winning, turning Vermont more and more into some sort of communist welfare state where everything goes except morality, responsibility, and the constitution. Sad but true.

JW said: "As for Health Care, we'd be better off if Hillary had gotten her way 15 years ago than we are now as insurance companies rip off the consumers as prices escalate well above the rate of inflation and Insurance Company hacks ration your health care and decide if you live or die. "

Given the sterling performance on both sides of the aisle in demonstrating the bi-partisan resolve to manage my future with things such as Social Security why would I ever want to give them the ability to control my health care. Socialize programs around the world are sub-standard to the one we have today. There is nothing that big government will manage that will be done efficiently. Each and every decision will be based on the politics of the choice at hand. I'll take my chances arguing with the Insurance companies thank you.

Right on cue. Little nameless factually-challenged coalition of the clueless cretin fella, are you seriously disputing the existence of Strom's Black Daughter?

Are you really that ignorant and ill-informed?

That's what I thought.

First, you're agreeing with bubbles that FDR attacked Germany and Japan to get us out of the Depression when they posed no threat to us, now you're shillin' for racist scum like Strom.

Clearly, I've underestimated the depths of your cluelessness and cretinous, and for that, you have my apologies.

(CNN) -- An attorney for the family of former U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina confirmed Monday that in 1925, when he was 22, Thurmond fathered a child with a black teenage housekeeper.

Thurmond, the longest-serving senator in U.S. history, died in June at age 100. His daughter's story was published Sunday by The Washington Post.

Essie Mae Washington-Williams, a 78-year-old retired school teacher in Los Angeles, California, revealed her relationship to the former segregationist after decades of silence.

Thurmond ran for president in 1948 on the ticket of the States Rights Party, the "Dixiecrats," a breakaway faction of Southern Democrats who believed strongly in racial segregation and were opposed to the Democratic Party's civil rights program.

He received 1 million votes and carried four Deep South states; Democrat Harry Truman won the election.

Where was the word "rape" used in your little article, jw? Maybe you were thinking of Slick Willie or even Gary Studds, the Mass. democrat that raped a boy page several years ago?

JW....relationship does not equal rape.

Can you prove rape or do you want to admit this is just one more trumped up statement you have made on these boards my little factless friend?

FYI...in civilized society that is a rather serious allegation.

JW posts this:

"From David Mattingly

I am not quite sure to make of someone who archives 4 year old CNN articles of so little importance other than to flame the "us -v- them" fires of partisanship and intolerance.

I care equally little about this as I do about the indiscretions of JFK, Wilbur Mills, thomas Jefferson, Jim Baker or Slick Willie. What is the point of this other than to embarrass? Am I to assume you, JW, are without flaws?

Grow up a little.

But the rest of us have to put up the the Republicans constant reference to what was much more believably a mutual act, given the nature of it. In 1927 in a white male black female relationship, particularly one in which the male is master and the female is servant, that is not so clear. That, however, does not necessarily constitute rape, but it certainly is hypocritical for one of the most segregation-oriented senators in the history of this country.

WOW...a hypocritical politician. Can that be? How about:

John Edwards...champion of the common man... made his fortune as a Personal injury lawyer and now gets $400 haircuts. He sure walks the talk.

Hillary Clinton...defender of the working man...corporate lawyer...former board member of Walmart.

Ted Kennedy...the list is too long to type.

and on and on and on.

C'mon.

Do ya really wanna paint yourself into a corner where ya come off as a dimmer, more ignorant and ill-informed version of the bubble boy? Suit yourself.

"You've been most insistent on not allowing people to put words in your mouth. Please extend me the same courtesy."

Well, little fella, given the fact that you've misquoted and mischaracterized what I've said on a number of occasions, I've got a case and you don't.

"I don't dispute Bush's unpopularity in Vermont, but as I've said before, I don't think Vermonters hold Douglas or even Dubie responsible for what Bush does."

Well, given the fact that I showed you the factual basis of my contention as to why they should and may yet do while you've done nothing but tell me how dubious you are without providing the factual basis for your dubiousness, once again, clearly, you don't understand the relationship between The Federal and State Governments and the facts.

Frankly, I'm dubious as to your willingness and ability to learn and acknowledge the facts.

No, unfortunately, they didn't.

That's a fair point. That said, it's also a fact that no gop challenger to Welch has come forward and they'll be running against an incumbent without Rainville's ability to run in Uniform on the Taxpayer's dime.

Once again, apart from seeing how many times you can claim to be dubious in your posts, like all gops, you've provided no evidence to support your assertions.

The fact remains that gops are less popular now than they were two years ago and with good reason. Their disastrous policies have brought financial ruin upon this State and this Country.

The facts are the facts. Again, I'm dubious about your willingness and your capacity to grasp reality and the facts.

And yet it not OK for other than republicans to be "hypocrites" in sexual matters. If you can dismiss this kind of behavior on the part of Republicans, then the same should be allowed to Democrats and others.

"FYI...in civilized society that is a rather serious allegation."

Yeah, but we're not talking about Civilized Society, little nameless nitwit. Once again, we're talking about a 22 year-old strom fathering a child with a Black Teenager in 1925 Jim Crow South Carolina. What the hell does that have to do with Civilized Society?

Not surprisingly, you, bubbles and your coalition of the clueless compatriots keep choosing to ignore two crucial relevant facts and inconvenient truths.

First of all, the Thurmond Family is not contesting the matter.

Secondly, the fact that a 78 year-old Black Woman refused to reveal the identity of her ignorant Racist, Segregationist Father until after his death.

Clearly, while you and your coalition of the clueless compatriots would have trouble, any reasonable, intelligent person to say nothing of a Court of Law and a Jury could reasonably conclude that some arrangement had been made that the identity of her father would not be revealed until after his death in exchange for one form of consideration or another given the facts.

Conservative upbringing and some family values, I guess.

No one is immune from making mistakes in life - what is important is that they take personal responsibility for those mistakes, much as Strom did. Compare that with the whiny libs today that always blame someone or something else for their own failures. (My welfare check is too small, government "owes" me health care, it's not MY fault that I hate all of those Big Macs, the coffee burned ME, etc.)

Dead-on target Bubba. We have lost our sense of personal accountability. Have all the free thinking liberals forgotten the "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" speech.

I was just going to say that JWCoop is also nameless but now I know he's that insult dog from TV.

Dan Rather interview with Essie Mae was on 60 Minutes, 12/17/03.

Chew on that for a little while, little fella!

"Ah, so you're gonna try another chorus of the ole "if you hate nazis and klansmen, you're a bigot, too" song and dance, eh?"

Not really. I am just curious if they know this is how a 50+ year old man behaves routinely. Do you share this special way of talking to people with them? Do they share your gift of eloquence?

You are quite an example.

And WHAT would the date of Strom's death have to do with the date of an interview between TWO LIVE PEOPLE discussing him??? Jeezum crow , isn't it about time for the rubber room, jw?

Strom didn't think whites should marry blacks.

He just believed that white men should knock up young black women and leave them to raise the bastard children on their own.

But don't worry ... he'll send a check every once in a while.

Yeah, as long as ya keep your mouth shut and don't reveal your Lovin' Daddy's Identity for the first 78 years of your life or he's dead.

Strom was so thoughtful.

Few would disagree Strom had more than his share of issues BUT JW you are avoiding the question that was asked of you. You accused him of rape. Clearly a man so focused on requiring others proving their statements can prove his. You were asked to so far haven't. Rape is a serious accusation. Surely you are a prudent man and wouldn't make it cavilierly while hidding behind the your fictional screen name. Please provide your verifiable evidence. Put up or shut up please.

Y^eah, you'll get your evidence the same day jw reveals how JFK was about to end the Vietnam War. Same old dim-flim-flam every day with our resident, low-rent, low-life Hoffer wanna be.

JW...unlike you I made it past the 5th grade and my reading skills are quite good.

You have offered no proof period, only opinion. No facts. Just JW's usual BS. Par for the course. Business as usual. Another day of the same old tired stuff from the anonymous posting of JWCOOP10. Bupkis. Nada. Nothing. Zilch. Zippo.

You are a child of no substance. Go stand in the line with all those you have accused o being clueless, nitwits and ingorant.

If you guys want any change in Vermont you need a new Speaker of the House.

"I'll leave the bogus accusations with no supporting evidence to you now that you and bubbles have made defending nazis and other white-supremacist trash your mission in life's work. "

Once again, an entirely untrue statement, devoid of all fact. I never defended Strom..prove where I did. All I asked was for your proof of your claims.

The only thing I am interested in is showing the complete fraud that you are. I think the point has been made. You are the loser.

Loud mouth, crass language = facts in the JW playbook.

We all know you're not Doug Hoffer, as he attempts to back up some of his allegations, even if they are totally flawed. More of a mini-me acolyte of his that he probably wishes would just go away, even more than the rest of us.

Bubba, did you ever think you would miss Hoffer so much?

No.

""But a Republican has won the two highest elected state offices in the last three elections."

Yeah, that's true. That said, what else have they won?"

That is a ridiculous response. What elese have they won BESIDES the two highest elective offices in Vermont in the last three election cycles?

Heating Oil/Fuel Prices.

Your gonna blame heating oil/fuel prices on the administration?

Good one!

D'ya think they'd be as high if we allowed drilling anywhere there's oil?

Ya willing to put some of the price factor on environmental regulations there, pally?

"And evidently you can't read, little nameless strom-shill fella, because I answered it several times."

No, you didn't.

"Nah, I see enough of bubbles and you and you as it it . . ."

As it "it"?

"Ya might wanna figure out how to use spell-check while you're at it."

Yeah, you might want to check your postings, too, little fella.

jw, you were asked for proof that the poster defended Strom, and you re-post his question as to why you would archive an old news story about Strom.

That's "proof" that he "defended" Strom?

Nice logic.

jw, how many times you gonna make reference to Brokeback Mountain?

I think maybe there's something going on in the background with you, little fella.

It's been a few days now JW. Still no proof huh.

You loser!

It's been a couple of months now, little nameless-nitwit fella.
No luck, eh?

"You loser!"

Well, at least ya didn't call me a "looser" this time, little fella. That's a step in the right direction for ya.

Always a pleasure.

Nice try. Another statement you have no proof for.

You are an empty suit.

It is, eh? Well, little fella, just when did you coalition of the clueless clowns come up with the evidence that I'm Doug Hoffer and FDR started a War with Germany and Japan - two Countries you clown's alleged posed no threat to us - just to get us out of the Depression he allegedly had us mired in?

Dazzle me, little factually-challenged fella.

Ya got bupkis, punk. You've had months and ya still can't come up with the goods.

How could I leave a guaranteed barrel of laughs like your ignorant ass on the table, little fella?

That's entertainment.

How many repeats of the same blog do you have to punish us with, Woodschmuck?

Come up with some new gop-slop and I'll see what I can do, little fraudulent fella.

All I see is the same old bupkis you've been spewin' for the better part of three months now.

Always a pleasure.
